意义：现代修辞与翻译理论的出发点 摘要 意义是语占哲学的核心问题，也是人们争论不休的话题。多年来，来自哲学、语言学、 心理学、逻辑学、修辞学等领域的学者从各自的领域提出了各种各样的意义理论试图回答 意义的本质问题，但都没能给出一个令人满意的答案。直n - 十世纪哲学的“语言转向” 后人们才开始关注使用中语言的意义。当代著名的西方修辞学先驱理查兹用语言哲学理论 研究领域。二十世纪修辞学已经发展成为一门研究语言运用和意义的跨学科宝贵理论。 意义也是翻译理论的核心问题。翻译的灵魂是意义的语际转换。传统的翻译理论因受 结构主义的影响只关注静态的语言结构，没有注意到在实际交际中人们对语言的具体运用， 即言语；所以一直无力回答“意义”是什么这个问题尽管翻译理论不是研究意义的理论， 而只是研究意义语际转换的理论。问题是，在没有弄清意义为何物的情况下研究意义的语 际转换，多少有点盲目之嫌。因此，在传统翻译理论的指导下，翻译研究已经陷于了困境、 建立翻译学也成了难圆的梦。 翻译是交际，它同样遵守交际的规律。翻译学是对人类交际问题的研究，是不可以不 关注交往的资质的，即翻译学是研究语言的使用问题的。理查兹认为，文学语言与普通语 言的意义背景足样的，它们都足符号；符号要有意义就必须阐释。修辞学不是把话语和 作品仅仅视为进行美学审视或无限解构的文本对象，而是把它们视为与作者、读者、演说 者和听众之f a j 建立的广泛的而又密不可分的社会联系，脱离这些话语形式所依赖的社会环 境就无法理解。所以，理查兹认为，翻译不仅涉及把一种象征系统或语言转换成其他，而 且涉及包括历史、文化、心理以及词汇和背景在内的文本的转换。巴赫金的理论与理查兹 的理论如出一辙，他认为意义并不来自语言本身，意义是语言运用方式的种功能，要根 掘历史环境、思想口的、语言习惯，在社会条件下做出解释。因此，在文学或翻译中意义 贝仃修辞的性质，因为语言是“宣传目的的工具”而不只足“象征所指意义的手段”。 k ；1 此，本文认为，翻译研究要走出困境、建寺翻译学，借鉴当代西方修辞学一门 “旨在掌握语言使用根本规律的哲学学科”的成功经验来构建翻译学是必要的、可行的。
