Laine DuplerMon/Wed 12-2pm1/17/2020Personal SWOT Analysis PaperAs a sophomore in college, I am already somewhat aware of my strengths and weaknesses. Through the online self-assessments and PRISM exercises, I learned more about my strengths and weaknesses and how they will affect my professional career. Using these exercises, I am able to improve my weaknesses and develop my strengths to excel in the future.I am the first to admit that I am not a fan of group work. In SAL #30: How good am I at building and leading a team? I scored 75, in the second quartile (72-94), because I am a perfectionist and I dont like being in groups where people dont care as much about their grades as I do. More often than not, I feel the grade I receive on a group project is lower than if I did the project individually, and maybe thats because in the past, we never distinguished what each persons role was in the group. I usually took the leadership position, but we never delegated who would be the organizer, recorder, encourager, or process observer. With these types of roles, people are more likely to participate and focus on their task in the group, so the whole team can work together effectively and efficiently. Another assessment that related to group work was SAL #28: How charismatic am I? My scores were: management of attention- 16; management of meaning- 15; management of feelings- 17, management of risk- 17; management of self- 17; and management of trust- 9. Unsurprisingly, my trust score was lower than the others which were all in the same range. I relate my trust issues with my difficulty working in groups. I dont trust the other people in the team to do their part of the work. Since working on improving this weakness, I am getting better at trusting my teammates to complete assignments.According to the self-assessments, my strengths include leadership, being proactive, having a high locus of control, having high emotional intelligence, being an analytical decision-maker, and having high personal planning skills. Leadership is something I have been practicing since the third grade. On SAL #27: Whats my leadership style, my score for concern of people was seven and concern for task was nine. The assessment said people with high task orientation scored above ten, while those with low task orientation scored below ten. For people orientation, a high score was above seven and a low score was below seven. Since I scored exactly seven and almost ten, I am right in the middle. It was a difficult test because its hard to say how you would react to the situations asked during the assessment if you have never been put in that position before. Most of the questions could have been answered differently based on specific situations. However, I would agree that I am slightly more task oriented than people oriented, like the assessment concluded, because I tend to care more about the task being completed than the people working on it. I included a high locus of control as a strength of mine because it requires people to take their actions into account when dealing with the success or failure of an obstacle. SAL #3: What is my locus of control? rated me as nine, having a high locus of control. My father instilled in me the value of self-dependency; only I am in control of my successes in life. This has pushed me to succeed in everything I have been involved in, whether it is school, athletics, clubs or jobs. When I do succeed, I can feel confident and proud that I did it on my own, and when I fail at something, for instance get a poor grade on a test or essay, I can only blame myself for not studying hard enough. With a high internal locus of control, I push myself to succeed, which is why I consider it a strength and not a weakness. Along with this concept is emotional intelligence, assessed during SAL #20: What is my Emotional Intelligence score? A score of 40 or higher is considered high E.I and I scored 38. Although it was clear in the assessment which questions a person was “supposed” to answer yes or no to, I think it correctly assessed me. People with low E.I are likely to have difficulty managing others, but I am usually the one to take initiative and assume the leadership role.Another strength of mine is my decision making style, scored by SAL #17. I scored as an analytical decision-maker, which the assessment says is best for “business students, lower-level managers, and top executives.” Analytical thinkers “desire more information and consideration of more alternatives” before making a decision, and I relate to this whole-heartedly. I like to have facts and data to back up my decisions, and I do better in classes such as math or science than in abstract classes such as art or history. I also like to look at alternatives before making a decision to reinforce my conclusion.SAL #22: How good am I at personal planning? evaluated my personal planning skills. All of my scores were four or five, meaning I dont have a problem with personal planning, and I am well aware of this fact. I have always been good at organizing my tasks and accomplishing goals so the results of this assessment were not surprising. I view personal planning as a strength because it is helpful when you have a lot of work that needs to be done in a short amount of time and you are able to delegate importance to each task and complete them all successfully. In the next five years, I plan on completing my college degree in Management Information Systems and Marketing at Ohio University. Due to my majors, I have chosen to complete the Junior Cluster. Since I like to work by myself, I think MIS is a practical major for me because it deals with technology and can be done independently for the most part. Although it is unclear exactly what I want to do as a career, I am leaning toward working with a bank, for instance BankOne or Bank of America, and its information systems. Hopefully my skills and education can improve the banks dynamic and security systems. My Jungian16 type personality is ISTJ: Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging. According to Meyers-Briggs, ISTJ type personalities are “thorough, painstaking, systematic, hard-working, and careful with detail.” Hopefully my job within a bank is structured and organized, since thats how I work best. However, I need to develop in areas such as working with other people and communicating praise, which can be worked on through my two remaining years at OU.My personality also values structure and planning, so I am going to work very hard at securing a full-time position in a company before graduating college so I can prepare for my future profession during spring quarter of senior year. As a committed member of an organization, I hope to make positive contributions to the company the first couple years I am there, innovating and improving information systems to the companys advantage. At some point, I hope to travel to Italy for a vacation since I have ne
