During 1986-1997 he served in Telstra Research Laboratories (TRL), first as a research engineer and between 1988-1997 as a project leader managing a team of researchers providing expert advice to Telstra on network design and traffic engineering, and on traffic aspects of evolving telecommunications standards. He is the recipient of the Telstra Research Laboratories Outstanding Achievement Award in 1990.Between 1990-2001, he has also taught and supervised graduate students at Monash University. Between 1997-2008 he was with The University of Melbourne, as a senior research fellow (1997-1998), associate professor (1998-2001), and professor (2001-2008). In December 2008 he joined the Electronic Engineering Department of City University of Hong Kong as a Chair Professor of Information Engineering and a group leader. He has served as a session chair and member of technical and organizing committees of numerous national and international conferences. He gave tutorials in several major international conferences such as IEEE ICC and IEEE GLOBECOM. He served on the editorial board of the Australian Telecommunications Research Journal, during 1991-1996, and as a Series Editor for the IEEE Communications Magazine during 2001-2004 and Computer Networks during 1999-2003. He also served as a Guest Editor of IEEE JSAC for two issues: Future Voice Technologies and Analysis and Synthesis of MAC Protocols. Presently, he is serving on the editorial board of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, and the International Journal of Communication Systems. He is also serving as a Senior Editor of IEEE JSAC. He submitted contributions to and represented Australia in several ITU-T/CCITT standards meetings. Professor Zukerman has over 200 publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings and has been awarded several national and international patents.Home page:.hk/zukerman/Sammy ChanB.Eng., M.Eng.Sc. He worked in Telstra Research Laboratories (TRL) from 1989 to 1994, where he held the position of Engineer from 1989 to 1992 and Senior Engineer from 1992 to 1994. During his stay in TRL, he worked in various sections. In 1989, he worked in the Telematic and Security Section, where he was involved in the specification and development of Telecom Australias X.500 based Corporate Electronic Directory. From 1990 to 1994, he worked in the Network Analysis Section. The projects he has invloved include evaluating the traffic and availability performance of the Australian ISDN network, development of software tools for the analysis and design of telecommunications networks, and traffic management, in particular, real-time congestion control, in Broadband ISDN.He joined the City University of Hong Kong in December 1994, where he is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering and a member of the Teletraffics and Networking Team (TNT) of the department. His past research interests include congestion control and switch architecture for ATM networks, handoff technique and data link protocols for wireless ATM networks, optimal file placement in video-on-demand networks and TCP over wireless networks. Recently, his research interest has shifted to resource allocation and routing in ad hoc networks. Occasionally, he provides consultancy to industry, such as the world-first commercial operator of video-on-demand service, and a struggling VoIP service provider. He holds one and only one patent.
