What must we do to be a skillful learner?We study English more than for various tests or exams. Learning English, in the long run, is to master it for our future work and life. Many people give their learning up halfway because they think it too difficult to learn. Some, who are tough-minded or determined, persist in learning it till success.Then, how can we succeed? Are there any skills for high efficiency in English study? Definitely yes.To learn it well, you should be cautious with 2 sides-input and output. Input, which means “put in”, contains listening and reading. Output, as you can see, means speaking and writing. Before you can speak and write well, ask yourself “Have I done enough listening and reading?”, for you cant expect a good output without a proper amount of input? So one of the skills to learn well is to read and listen both intensively and extensively. Only by reading and listening massively can you find build up your own vocabulary and set up a good sense of English. Learning is less meaningful with only input. Thats why a qualified English learner attaches great importance both to input and output. Then comes the question-how can we speak and read well? Of course its a long story. But to make it short, we must bear the following in mind:1. You need to enlarge your vocabulary-words can be learnt both by reading and by memorizing them in a mechanical way. You may take interest in my experience.(循环记忆法+ 联词成文法)2. You must read some well-written passages well as to learn them by heart. These passages, in return, will guide you in using the language(speaking and writing) and get you familiar with whatever youve just learned-words, expressions , phrases and patterns. Thus, with a number of passages in your head, you will become more confident and interested in the study. What can be more important for interest and confidence for a normal person? Again my own story can serve as a good example. And it has enabled hundreds of students work wonder in the past 20 years of my teaching.（熟读成诵法） New Concept English, which is almost considered to be the Bible for English learners and contains so many old but lively amusing passages , can help you achieve your goal if you keep on learning it in the required way-listening, fast reading, intensive reading and reciting. As a matter of fact, I have benefited a lot from it .So have the graduates of SFLS in 2000 and in 2001.(They are one of the best batches in our schools history.)Dont worry about its British accent, for the pure British accent is the forefather/ancestor of the language.
