Besides its persuasive powers, eye contact helps hold listener interest. A successful speaker must maintain eye contact with an audience. To have good rapport(关系) with listener, a speaker should maintain direct eye contact for at least 75 percent of the time. Some speakers focus exclusively(唯一的)on their notes. Others gaze over the heads of their listeners. Both are likely to lose audience interest and esteem. People who maintain eye contact while speaking, whether from a podium(演讲台) or from across the table, are “regarded not only as exceptionally well-disposed by their target but also as more believable and earnest.”To show the potency (力量,效应)of eye contact in daily life, we have only to consider how passers-by behave when their glances happen to meet on the street. At one extreme are those people who feel obliged to smile when they make eye contact. At the other extreme are those who feel awkward and immediately look away. To make eye contact, it seems, is to make a certain link with someone.Eye contact with an audience also lets a speaker know and monitor the listeners. It is, in fact, essential for analyzing an audience during a speech. Visual cues(暗示) from audience members can indicate that a speech is dragging, that the speaker is dwelling on( to think, speak, or write a lot about) a particular point for too long, or that a particular point requires further explanation. As we have pointed out, visual feedback from listeners should play an important role in shaping a speech as it is delivered.56. This passage is mainly concerned with _.A. the importance of eye contact B. the potency of nonverbal techniquesC. successful speech delivery D. an effective way to gain visual feedback57. According to the passage, a good speaker must _.A. “sell” his or her ideas to an audience B. maintain direct eye contact with listenersC. be very persuasive and believable D. be exceptionally well-disposed58. The word “target” in the last sentence of the first paragraph can best be replaced by _.A. “destination” B. “goal” C. “audience” D. “followers”59. In daily life, when the glances of two passers-by happen to meet, these two persons will inevitably(不可避免地) _.A. smile to each other B. feel awkward and look away immediatelyC. try to make a conversation with each other D. none of the aboveBMany people think a telephone is essential .But I think it is a pest and a time waster .Very often you find it impossible to escape from some idle or curious chatterbox ,or from somebody who wants something for nothing .If you have a telephone in your own house ,you will admit that it tends to ring when you are asleep ,or in the middle of a meal or a conversation, or when you are just going out ,or when you are taking your bath. Are you strong minded enough to ignore it , to say to yourself, “Ah ,well ,it will all be the same in a hundred years time” You are not .You think there may be some important news or messages for you .I can assure you that if a message is really important it will reach you sooner or later .Have you never rushed dripping from the bath ,or chewing from the table, or dazed from the bed ,only to be told that you are a wrong number? But you will say ,you need not have your name printed in the telephone directory ,and you can have a telephone which is only usable for outgoing calls .Besides ,you will say, isnt it important to have a telephone in case of emergencyillness ,an accident ,or fire? Of course ,you are right ,but here in a thickly populated country like England one is seldom far from a telephone in case of dreadful necessity.I think perhaps I had better try to justify myself by trying to prove that what I like is good .I admit that in different circumstancesif I were a tycoon (business VIP) ,for instance ,or bed ridden I might find a telephone essential . But then if I were a taxidriver I should find a car essential.Let me put it another way: there are two things for which the English seem to show particular talent; one is mechanical invention, the other is literature .My own business happens to be with the use of words but I see I must now stop using them .For I have just been handed a slip of paper to say that somebody is waiting to speak to me on the telephone .I think I had better answer it .After all ,one never knows , it may be something important.59The passage is mainly discussing .Athat we should be strong enough to ignore a phone callBthat important message will reach you sooner or laterCwhether its necessary to answer all phone callsDwhether it is necessary to have a telephone60Judging from the passage ,who is strong-minded enough to ignore a phone call?AThe author.BA tycoon.CA taxidriver.DHardly anyone.61According to the passage ,the author .Athinks the telephone should go out of our life Blikes to be different from other peopleCthinks the telephone is annoying Dspeaks favourably of a telephone62In the authors opinion ,which of the following is NOT true ?ANearly everyone has been told a wrong number. BIts necessary for everyone to have a telephone.CHe himself can not decide whether to answer a call. DA telephone directory may bring in unexpected C / calls.Normally a student must attend a certain number of courses in order to graduate, and each course that he attends gives him a credit that he may count towards a degree .In many American universities the total work for a degree consists of thirtysix courses each lasting for one semester .A typical course consists of three classes per week for fifteen weeks; while attending a university a student will probably attend four or five courses during each semester. Normally a student would expect to take four years attending two semesters each year. It is possible for a student to move between one university and another during his degree course ,though this is not in fact done as a regular practice. For every course that he follows a student is given a grade ,which is recorded ,and the record is available for the student to show to prospective employers .All this imposes a constant pressure and strain of work ,but in spite of this some students still find time for great activity in student affairs. Elections to positions in student organizations arouse much enthusiasm .Students who advise the academic authorities usually perform the effective work of maintaining discipline .Any student ,who is thought to have broken the rules ,for example by cheating ,has to appear before a student court .With the enormous numbers of students ,the operation of the system does involve a certain amount of activity. A student who has held one of these positions of authority is much respected and it will be of benefit to him later in his career.63Normally a student would at least attend classes each week.A12B15C20D3664According to the first paragraph an American student is allowed .Ato live in a different university Bto get two degrees from two different universitiesCto live at home and drive to class Dto take a particular course in a different university65American university students are usually under pressure of work because .Atheir academic performance will affect their careersBthey want to run for positions of academic authorityCthey have to observe university disciplineDthey are heavily involved in student affairs66The student organizations seem to be effective in .Adealing with the academic affairs of the universityBkeeping up the students enthusiasm for social activitiesCensuring that the students observe university regulationsDevaluation students performance by bringing them before a court67Some students are enthusiastic for positions in student organizations probably because .Athey hate the constant pressure and strain of their studyBthey will then be able to stay longer in the universityCsuch positions help them get better jobsDsuch positions are usually well paidDDigital cameraThe newly invented digital camera is fascinating; you can take pictures without film. You can transfer and exhibit your picture globally in a few seconds through the Internet .The image stored in a hard drive will never wear out like the traditional photos .Digital cameras also satisfy the impatient photographer by allowing them to view their masterpiece in real time.Unlike the images of traditional cameras formed by chemical reaction ,the digital camera works as an image digitizer itself .Its made of CCD(charge coupled device ), a small grid of tiny light sensitive cells .When struck by light ,each cell sends out an electrical signal whose waveform characteristics vary depending on the intensity (强度)of light .The signal from each cell is changed into a digital value and stored in the cameras memory or on an electronic storage medium. A “picture” is reduced to a very long list of numbers waiting to be converted back into visual form. Processed through a computer ,each value becomes a pixel; pixels are reassembled in the original grid pattern and displayed or printed. The image resolution(分辨率)of a digital camera depends on the CCD. More cells on the CCD mean more pixels on the image ,which gives greater detail and higher image resolution .The early digital camera had resolution only up to 400 pixels per image ,cost several thousand dollars ,and was mainly for business use .Now there are more choices for consumers in different price ranges . The variety of digital camera has amazed first adapters to buy the products. The digital camera technology is moving very fast .A few months ago ;most of the digital cameras were equipped with focus lenses ,but now most new models are equipped with auto focus lenses at reasonable prices .With all these inventions and technology advancements ,the future of digital camera is bright ,and digital cameras may eventually replace traditional cameras.68The second paragraph mainly talks about _.Ahow digital c
