I have met movie and TV stars, authors, scientists, pop stars, been invited to the White House, and even helped Mick Jaggar destroy his hotel room (thats a story for later).With that said, I found most have been interesting but not really that impressive, at least not the kind where you would say, boy I would like to be in his/her shoes. There are a few that stand out in the crowd however. He grew up there because in 1927 his mother, from the remote mountain village of Daheishan, only 18 years old, and with only a bag of pancakes walked for seven days to reach the city of over five million. She found work, settled, got married, and had three sons.The Yunnan Province has two-dozen of the 55 ethnic minority cultures that make up China and you thought a Chinese person was a Chinese person, didnt you? There are ethnic groups that are spitting images of our Native Americans (which most anthropologists agree are the descendants of early Asians crossing the Bearing Sea thousands of years ago), and blue eyed white skin groups that look like families from Anytown, USA. What better way to see the world then climbing up the seven tallest mountain peaks on all seven continents, right? Climbing all seven is considered one of the biggest challenges of all time. American Richard Bass first promoted the idea in the 1980s, and was the first man to do it.Here are the Seven Summits and the dates when Feibao climbed them:Mt Everest (Sagarmatha or Chomolungma) in China at 29,035 ft. He reached it on May 14, 2006.Mt Kilimanjaro (Volcano Kibo: Uhuru Peak). In Tanzania, Africa at 19,340 ft. Reached it on October 20, 2006.Vinson Massif in Antarctica at 16, 050 ft. Reached it on December 23, 2006.Kosciuszko in Australia at 7,310 ft. Reached it on May 26, 2007.Mount McKinley (Denali) in the USA at 20,320 ft. Reached it on June 30, 2007.Mt. Reached it on December 8, 2007.A fellow named Reinhold Messner revised Basss list by using the broader definition of Oceania and included Carstensz Pyramid rather than Australias Mount Kosciuszko. So Feibao included Mt Carstensz, the highest in Oceania on September 9, 2007. This mountain is in his own province of Yunnan, China.Mt Muztagh Ata (Father of Ice Mountain), the scenic peak of the Pamir Mountains, on July 24, 2004. Its at 24,750 ft and located in the city of Kashgar, Central Asia.Mt Qowowuyag (Cho-Oyu) on September 25, 2005 at 26,906.17 ft. It straddles the Sino-Nepal border. The north side belongs to Tingri County, Tibet, China and the South side to the Kingdom of Nepal.Mt Kyizi on March 31, 2006 at 20,367.45 ft. Kyizi looks like head of a dog (Kyi in Tibetan means dog and zi equals head). Located in Tibet.And his last climb was at:Mt Sisha Pongma on October 22, 2008 at 26,286.09. He went skiing to the Geographic South Pole on January 19, 2007 and then to the Geographic North Pole on April 28th, 2007. Greggs father Dr. Clinton Millett was a U.S. Army doctor stationed in Kunming during World War II. He serviced the Flying Tigers the Chinese Air Forces First American Volunteer Group in 1944. He took many color photographs of China and are the oldest known color photos of the country. In 2004, Greg had an exhibit of these photos in the Schenectady Museum. Feibao promoted an exhibition of these oldest known color photographs in China and then Gregg gave them to Kunming. The photos were exhibited at the National Museum of China in Beijing and at the Pingyao International Photography Festival. This tour will pass through the Indochinese peninsula from north to south via Hue in Vietnam, Luang Prabang in Laos, Phnom Penh, Vientiane and Cambodia. If you have been at the tallest places on earth, where else can you go? Space? You guessed it. He was in Florida at Cape Canaveral going through flight training. He went through 15 parabolic flights, each having 30 seconds of weightlessness. He will become the first Chinese space tourist in a year or two.
