Lesson18 The Magic Stone1. Teaching goals(教学目标):1) Ss will be able to understand the story with the help of pictures and teacher support.2) Ss will be able to read the story with the help of pictures and teacher support. 3) Ss will be able to act out the story with the help of pictures and teacher support.2. Teaching preparation(教学准备): Audiotape or multimedia CD3. Teaching procedures(教学过程): Step1. Greeting(问候): Step2. Lead-in(导入) We are going to listen to, and read a story with a lesson to the one in the story about the rabbit who was stuck in mud. Step3. New lesson(新课) 1) Story time: look and talk about Refer the Ss to page 45 in the Ss book. I need to do some pre-reading work here to make sure that Ss have a basic comprehension of the story plot before you actually read the story. A good way to do this is to go through each panel in the story and talk about what is happening. Use Chinese in this part of the lesson. Allow Ss to response in Chinese. Whenever you can, say the accompanying English words but the main purpose of this part is to facilitate understanding.Panel1. What is happening? Why is the old woman sad?Panel2. Who is walking in front of the house? What does he say that he has?Panel3. What does the boy tell the old woman that he can do with the magic stone?Panel4. Does the boy agree to let the old man use the stone?Panel5. What do the people want to do with the stone? Do they believe it will make soup?Panel6. What happens now? What does each person bring to the soup? Panel7. Is the soup good to eat? Panel8.The boy leaves without taking the stone. Why? What does he mean when he says, you are the magic?2) Read the storySs now have a good understanding of the plot and action of the story. Now, its time for Ss to hear it aloud. Read the whole story to them, slowly and with actions and gestures. Ask Ss to follow along with me as I read. Listen to the tape and again. Ss follow along, but do not read aloud yet. Divided the class into gourd of four or five. Explain that I want them to take turns reading the story to each other. One Ss read it, then the next, and so on. Allow plenty of time for this. More around the room and help those Ss who are afraid to read or are having trouble with the word. Encourage everyone and tell them that you care less about their pronunciation and a lot more the fact that they are trying to read in English.3) After reading Role play: divided the class into group of six. Each Ss in the group takes one of the six roles and act it out with dialogue and action. Give plenty of time to prepare and then present to the class. Tell the story: In my own words, tell the story to the class. Do not look in the Ss books as I tell the story. I tell the first thing that happens in the story. Then, ask a student to tell us what happens next. Ask a variety of Ss until the story is concluded. 4. Class closing(小结) Tell Ss that stories are a great way to learn many useful lessons about life.
