Students will practice listening skills and talk about their favorite songs or musicians. Its very close to their daily life and many students are interested in music.2. Teaching Aims. a.Knowledge Aims: Students can master the following words and sentences: (1) pop, rock, band (2)-What kind of music do you like? -I like pop music/rock music/country music/jazz -Why do you like? -How does it make you feel? -It makes me feel -Who is your favorite singer or musician?b.Ability Aim: Students can talk about some information of songs, singers and bands. c.Emotional Aim: Stimulate students to know more about music and love music. 3.Key Points and Difficulties.a.Key Points: 1). Learn and master the new words and sentences. 2). Students can talk about some information of songs, singers and bands.b.Difficulty: Students can use target language to talk about music.Part2.Students Analysis. The Students of Grade 8 are crazy for music and pop stars. They know so many things about their idols. They have learned the words of music and musicians but they have problems in listening and they also find it difficult to talk about their favorite music or musicians in English. Part3. Teaching Methods and Learning Strategies.1.Teaching Methods: a. Let the students work in pairs or in groups to practice their oral abilities. b.Free discussion method: c.Task-Based Language teaching2.Learning Strategies: a. Learning in groups or in pairs. b. Creating interesting learning situations for them. Part4. Teaching Procedure.Step1. Warming up. Show some famous English sayings on PPT. E.g.: The music, the soul of man, and only know music talent understand life. 音乐,人类的灵魂,只有懂得音乐的人才懂得生活。 Music makes qualities of a race higher and expensive, where have music, where enjoy to melt! 音乐使一个民族的气质更高贵,哪里有音乐,哪里就乐融融! Purpose: To help students know some famous English says about music. Step2. Lead-in: Enjoy the music and answer the questions. Show an MTV for students to watch and ask them three questions: -What is the name of the song? -Whats the name of the band? -What kind of music is it? Purpose: Create a situation for students to talk about music and teach them the new words: band, pop. Step3. Discussion1a Who is your favorite singer or musician? Tell us why you like him or her.Let students work in groups to talk about the question. Before they discuss, teacher can give them an example: e.g.: Whitney Elizabeth Houston is my favorite singer. She was born on August 9, 1963 and dead on February 11, 2012. She was an American singer, actress, producer, and model. I like her voice because it is powerful.Purposes: Help students to practice the target language: -Who is your favorite singer or musician? -My favorite singer is .Step4.Listening practice. 1b. Listen to a conversation between Alex and Dave. Write A for Alex or D for Dave next to each opinion. Play the tape recording for students to listen and do the exercise. When they finish, ask some of them to present their answers. 1c. Listen again and take notes. Call attention to the chart in 1c. Then play the tape recording for students. For the first time, students should listen carefully; for the second time, students should take notes and fill in the chart. When they finish, ask some of the students to present their answers and check their answers. Purpose: To help students practice listening.Step5. Different kinds of music. Play five kinds of music for students, they are classical music, pop music, country music, rock and jazz. Purpose: Help students learn some kinds of music.Step6 Oral practice. 1d. Ask your friends what kind of music they listen to and why. How does the music make them feel? Let students work in groups to talk about the questions in the chart and write down their answers. Purpose: To give students a chance to practice the target languages.Step7 Games. Show four present boxes on the PPT. Let students to choose their favorite boxes. In each box, there is an MTV or a topic about music or musician. Students should watch the video and answer questions. Purpose: To create more chances for students to use the target languages.Step8 Homework. Oral work(口头作业): 1).Imitate the conversations in 1b and 1c. 2).Ask your friends favorite singers. Written work(书面作业): Write an article to introduce your favorite music or musicians.Part5. Blackboard Design. -Do you like music? -Yes, I do./ No, I dont. -What kind of music do you
