Its also very good reading material for students to get some moral education. 、Teaching Aims and Demands1、 Knowledge Objects:Words&phrases: southwestern, thick clouds, condition, take in air, challenge, in the face of, achievement, the forces of natureStructures: The Himalayas run along the southwestern part of China. Qomolangma rises the highest and is the most famous. One of the main reasons is that people want to challenge themselves in the face of difficulties. It also shows that humans can sometimes be stronger than the forces of nature. Ability Objects:(1) Help students comprehend the passage with some mind maps(2) Encourage students to work with their partners to finish an interview.(3) Train students reading skills by finishing some tasks.3、Moral Objects Climbers spirit in humans lifeChallenge yourself in the face of difficulties 、Teaching Key and Difficult Points1、 Key Points: Key words and phrases Finish the chart in activity 3b Comprehend the passage with some mind maps2、 Difficult Points:Enable Ss to work with their partners to finish an interview.Learn to read the article by answering some questions.、Teaching MethodsTask-based teaching method, Communicative method、Learning MethodsCommunicative learning method、Teaching AidsMulti-media 教学过程(Teaching Procedures)Step 1 Lead-in1. Greet Ss as usual. 2.Lead Ss to travel around the world on a plane from our hometown-Langxi, Ss will enjoy some beautiful photos of some great places, such as the biggest freshwater- Superior, the biggest salt lake-the Caspian Sea, the highest plateau-Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and so on.3.Where did we go just now? (have a free talk with Ss, review what they have learnt last class) Step 2 Before ReadingGo on our journey, next stationQomolamgma. Ask Ss how much they know about Qomolangma, then tell them that Qomolangma is not only the highest but also the most dangerous mountain. And they can find out the facts and dangers about it in the passage on page 51Step 3 Fast Reading Task1.Predict what is the passage about according to the title and the picture.Task2: Go through the passage, and match the main idea with each paragraph.Present these key words: achievement, dangers, spiritStep 4 Careful Reading Lead Ss to finish the chart in activity 3b, divide this activity into several small tasks.Para1Read Para1, find the answers to the questions and try to finish a mind map .Q1:Where are the Himalays ? Q2 What is it famous for?(Present the key words: run along, southwestern)Then show Ss a picture of the Himalays, point out Qomolangma for Ss, draw Ss attention on this mountain, then ask Ss to list the dangers of Qomolangma according to Para1(Present the key words: thick clouds, take in, freezing, condition.)T: What makes Qomolangma the highest and the most dangerous?(play a video to let Ss know some geography facts about Qomolangma, then tell Ss that the forces of nature make Qomolangma the highest and the most dangerous, But humans can sometimes be stronger )Para2 Although its very dangerous to reach the top of Qomolangma, a lot of people try their best to climb it. Ask Ss to read Para2 carefully, and list three achievements of the climbers.1953-Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary were the first people to reach the top.1960- The first Chinese team reached the top of Qomolangma.1975-The first woman Junko Tabei succeeded in reaching the top of Qomolangma(Show Ss the photos of these great climbers)Para1&Para3Read Para1 and Para3,List four comparisons Para3Read Para3 and answer the following questions:Q1:Why do so many climbers risk their lives:Q2:What does their spirit tell us?(Encourage Ss answer the questions and draw Ss attention to key words&phrases: challenge, in the face of ,achieve ones dream)Step 5 RetellingLead Ss to retell the passage with a mind map according to four comparisons: the most famous, the most dangerous, the most famous, and strongerStep6 After ReadingT: For healthy people, its very dangerous and difficult to climb Qomolangma. What about blind people? Can they climb Qomolangma?(Play a video about Eric, he was the first blind man to reach the top of Qomolangma, Ss will get some information about him in the video, including his background information and his trip to Qomolangma)Pair workSuppose you have a chance to interview Eric, what would you ask him? Give Ss enough time to work in pairs and make up an interview between Eric and a reporter.
