So says Professor Adrian North of Scotlands HeriotWatt University who has been studying the links between peoples personalities and their choice of music.“People often show their sense of identity through their musical taste, wearing special clothes, and going to certain pubs .Its not surprising that personality should also be connected to musical preference,”North said.North said it was the largest study ever of peoples musical preference and character. Researchers asked 36,518 people from around the world how much they liked 104 different musical styles before taking a personality test.“Researches have been showing for many years that fans of rock and rap are rebellious (叛逆的),”North said. “But this is the first time that research has shown how personality is connected to a liking for so many musical styles.”The study concluded that jazz and classical music fans are creative with good selfesteem, although the former are much more outgoing while the latter are shy. Country and western fans were found to be hardworking and shy; rap fans are outgoing. Those who like soul music are creative, outgoing, gentle,at ease with themselves and have a high self-esteem.And if youve ever wondered why people driving expensive sports cars often have loud music played in their cars,North could have an explanation.“Those who choose to listen to exciting, loud music are more likely to earn more money than those who go for relaxing sounds,” he said.North is still looking for volunteers to take part in the research.【语篇解读】研究表明,人们的性格决定他们所喜欢的音乐类型。1Adrian Norths research shows that Aeveryone likes listening to musicBwe can judge someone by what he/she wearsCpeoples personalities can decide their choice of musicDpeople like making friends with people who share their musical taste2According to the former researches, people who like rock Adont like trying new thingsBare usually very hardworkingCgenerally dont like obeying rulesDare likely to earn little money every month3Compared with people who like classical music, people who like jazz Aare more creativeBhave higher selfesteemCare more outgoingDare much shyer4How many kinds of music are mentioned in the passage?A7B9.C11.D13.BNew Orleans is the birthplace of jazz. At the turn of the 20th century, musicians from all over the country chose the city as their favorite place to show their talents. Jazz music flowed out of the city as the Mississippi River pours into the ocean. Yet,many individuals wonder why jazz originated in New Orleans in the United States. One of the reasons is the culture of the people who live in the city. New Orleans has been a city with a number of immigrants from Europe and Africa. In the 1800s,African slaves in New Orleans blended their native styles of music with local music and European sounds to create a unique mixture. At the same time, blacks learned to play musical instruments that Europeans brought with them to the New World. One instrument that they were especially interested in was the violin. They combined African music with the violin and created dances that blended with the sounds they produced.Eventually, black musicians developed the jazz movement. New Orleans was at the forefront(最前沿)because it was home to a number of people of African Americans. And New Orleans was one of the few places where musicians could make a living. In the early stages of jazz, there were a number of small clubs in New Orleans where black musicians performed the music as a completely New Orleans invention. Even white audiences went to these clubs for musical entertainment.Just like any form of music that is associated with a particular area, the origin of jazz was the result of the people living in New Orleans, their ingenuity(独创性),and the opportunity to display their talents.【语篇解读】本文主要说明了新奥尔良为何成为爵士乐发源地的。5In the early 20th century,New Orleans attracted so many American musicians because Ait was the birthplace of jazzBthey came here to study jazz musicCmore opportunities were offered hereDit was home to many African Americans6The underlined word “blended” (Para.2) means“ ”AbroughtBcombinedCperformedDcreated7Black musicians developed the jazz movement in New Orleans by Aplaying jazz in music clubsBperforming for white audiencesCcombining jazz with the violinDcreating dances blending with jazz8Whats the topic of the passage?ABlack people and the jazz movement.BNew Orleans and black people.CThe popularity of jazz music.DThe birthplace of jazz music.答案和解析 语法填空1.talented2.to combine3.has been transformed4.until5.representative6.The7.In8.in9.appearance10.in 完成句子1.plays an important part/role in2.At no time can you3.didnt go out to play until4.the first time5.so excited that 阅读理解15CCCB 5-10 CBAD1.细节理解题。根据第一段的“So says Professor Adrian North of Scotlands HeriotWatt University who has been studying the links between peoples personalities and their choice of music.”以及通读全文可知,Adrian North教授的研究表明不同性格的人所听的音乐会不同
