Commentary of thesis: Childrens Literature Translation Strategy in the Perspective of Functional EquivalenceIn the sample thesis the writer states that childrens literature translation strategy in the perspective of functional equivalence. I think the whole essay is well-organized. The title is very specific and briefly, and the content is distinct and fully, in that both English and Chinese abstract, the writer firstly puts forward the present of the childrens literature translation was often to be ignored, and declared that the T.S. what by comparing the three Chinese versions of the classic English childrens literature Peter Pan in their different strategies in dealing with the language, and attempts to find out some translation strategies for childrens literature in the last paragraph. It is a standard abstract with 3 key words.There are four paragraphs in the introduction. The first part come straight to the point, showing the background simply and setting an example of the three Chinese version of Peter Pan. The second paragraph quoted a statement from Francis Bacon pointed out the necessary of childrens reading, and importance of translation of childrens literature and calls for much more notice it. The third one, the writer makes a comparison with translation between childrens literature and adults. It was repeated that translators can pay more attention to the childrens literature translation. In the last, the writer spread out the construction of the whole thesis and the main idea of each part. All of the above are the main contents of the introduction.The body of this thesis was organized logically. It was divided into three parts in general. The first part consists of two portions about childrens literature: (1) the definition and the features of childrens literature by through compared with literature written for adults. It makes the focal points stand out which as a translator for children must standing in the childrens point of view to translate;(2) the writer illustrates with Peter Pan and its three Chinese version to support the argument and strengthen conviction. In order to easy to comprehend the Peter Pan, it provided a brief introduction about the author of the novel. But the shortcoming is that the content of the novel were not fully enough.The section two was the key of the whole text. You can find a topic sentence easily in the head or the end of each paragraph. The writer comes up with Nidas functional equivalence theory, and adopted the in-text citation of Nidas. However, it was better to write another paragraph on account of too many references of sentences.Then it declared the role of functional equivalence in translation of children literature. The writer expresses the same meaning by different means and makes the reader easy to understand the ideathe functional equivalence could be seen a guidance of translating childrens literature.A lot of concrete examples cited in the third part. There are some examples to the choice of words in translation of proper names in Peter Pan. By through all the examples of three Chinese version of Peter Pan, further discussed the importance of functional equivalence for the translation of Chinese childrens literature. It is better that there are some summative words after every sample. The last of this part, it sets two example of the equivalence in translation of lyrics in Peter Pan to sustain the meaning equivalence in translation of lyrics. After analyzing the body of this thesis, I think it is long enough to cover the topic and short enough to be interesting. The conclusion, the writer analyzed in his own words. It provided a bridge to help us make the transition back to our daily lives. He enumerated all points according to the order and repeated the T.S.Translators of childrens literature should better know about the childrens psychology as well as acquire a broad range of cultural background knowledge. With a childlike mind and functional equivalence as the guiding principles, translators will be successful in their translation. It is sum up the significance of this paper, and pointed out the weakness of it: Because of the unsatisfactory amount of materials on childrens literature translation and the writers limited knowledge and subjective sensation, many problems have not been found or not fully discussed.
