Analysis of the teaching content The content of my lesson is from Go for It Grade 8 Unit6 An old man tried to move the mountains. This unit is about legends and stories. Section A is about how to tell a story and how to adapt a story; Section B is about how to perform a story. The lesson type of my lesson is listening and speaking .This lesson is a lead-in of the entire unit, and is the basis the story performance. II. Analysis of the studentsItisknowntousthatthe studentsin Grade 8 have studied some words, phrases, sentence patterns and grammar such as the past progressive tense. After studying unit5, Ss can tell simple past events. However, they dont know how to tell a whole legends and stories.III. Design concept“English core quality” influences the whole lesson. It includes: Language ability, cultural character, thinking quality and learning ability.IV. Teaching objectivesAccording to above all,Isetthefollowing teaching objectives. Attheendofthelesson,1. Ssareableto use the new words: stone, weak, god and some useful expressions such as once upon a time correctly. 2. Ssunderstand and retell the story Yu Gong Moved a Mountain. 3. Ssknow the connotation of Chinese traditional culture.4. Sslearn for fun.5. Ss can think out methods to solve Yu Gongs problem and adapt the story.V. the Important and Difficult PointsThe important point is Ss understand and retell the story Yu Gongs story.The difficult point is how to cultivate thinking quality. VI. Teaching ProcedureStep 1 Lead-in. (2 mins)Teaching ContentTeaching purpose1). Watch a videoLets watch a video about the Drama Competition of Lijia Middle School last year.Stimulate students interests2). Invite Ss to join the Competition “The first step of performing is telling a story, and today we are going to learn how to tell a story.”Set up a taskStep 2. Understand the story (23 mins)Teaching ContentTeaching purposeUnderstand the beginning1). Free talkI show students a picture and ask: “What can you see in the picture?” To arouse their curiosity about this story, Ss can learn two new words: weak and stone, and predict what they are going to listen to. 2). Listen Listen to the story and answer the questions: When did it happen? Who was the old man? Where did he live?What was his problem?Listen and understand the beginning of the story.3). Learn mind map.I ask them: why did Yu Gong have such a problem? I draw a mind map on the blackboard. Ss learn the five factors of telling a story. 4). Retell Ss retell the beginning of the story with: when, where, who, what, why. To check if all the Ss have gotten the way of telling stories.Understand the rest1). Discussion“How to solve his problem? Do you have any wonderful solutions?” Ss can think out different methods to solve the problem such as digging a tunnel, building a new road, moving to another place and so on. This question can cultivate ss multiple thinking and creativity which have a great influence on ss lifelong learning. And those methods can help them adapt the story. 2). Listen Listen to the rest of the story and match the pictures with the verbs or verb phrases.Remembering verbs and verb phrases is a very helpful story-telling strategy. 3). Listen againWhile they are listening, Ss choose a factor based on their English levels and try to obtain factor information To have a better understanding about the rest of the story.Most Ss can take part in the activity, especially those who have trouble with English study. 4). Discussion I give each group five pictures to have a discussion, and ask one student to describe one picture with others factor information. Ss truly understand how to tell a story by using 5 factors. Besides, their cooperation ability can be trained. 5). PKTwo students describe one picture at the same time to have a PK. 5). Proper competition can arouse the Ss interest in English learning.Step 3. Retell the story (7mins)Teaching ContentTeaching purposeSs retell the story by turning sentences into a passage with some conjunctions as soon as, sothatThey learn how to tell the story from sentences to the whole progressively to break the important point.Step 4. Adapt the story (7mins)Teaching ContentTeaching purpose1). Learn from the storyI ask Ss “What they can learn from the story:” Different people have different ideas. They may answer: “nothing is impossible; God helps those who help themselves; Never give up” and so on. Then I will tell them that “Many sides to a story and many ways to understand it, anything is possible if we can find a good way”. It aims to develop critical thinking, and form a correct value.2).Adapt the story Ss try to adapt the story and create a new story with their methods. To improve the students ability: creating after understanding, and cultivate: constructing new concept, critical thinking,
