Teaching Design of He Lost His Arm But Is Still ClimbingAnalysis of the MaterialHe Lost His Arm But Is Still Climbing is a reading passage of Section Bin Unit1 Whats the matter? which is from Book 2 of PEP Go For It.The topic of this unit is Health and First aid, starting from talking abouthealth problems and giving advice in Section A to talking about accidentand First Aid in Section B which are the aims of this class. And this materialis suitable for not only improving students reading skills and their readingcomprehensive abilities but also enhancing students awareness of lovingand caring about lives.Analysis of the StudentsThe learners of this class are students from Grade 8 who are active and on the process of transfering from image thinking to abstract thinking and their emotions and willings are so sensitive that can be easily guided and developed. Theyve already got some skills about reading a story from Section A of this unit and just learnt the first-aid action oders in last class so it wont be difficult for them to find the orders of Arons story.TeachingAims1. Then come to the topic of mountain climbing, He Lost His Arm But Is Still Climbing. While-reading2Read title&picture(3mins)T writes the title on the Bb. Invite Ss to read the title together and look at the picture. Ask what happened emphasizing lost arm and still climbing. Then ask who is the climber? And what other information would you like to know about the accident? And look at the title to ask more questions about the accident. Start with Who, then maybe go on with Where, When and How did he lost his arm? Meanwhile, reminds Ss to circle when they meet the new words and try to guess them during the context. And tell Ss if they cant guess the meaning out, just leave there. Guide them to guess the new words again while finding the answers. Then tell Ss they can look them up in the dictionary if they still dont know the meaning. Then ask several Ss to retell.阅读策略-通过找出清晰合理的文章逻辑顺序并利用它来讲述或复述文章故事来进一步提升阅读技能与策略,符合本篇文本的特点。复述时适当添加细节会使故事更饱满和更吸引听众。Ss put the sentences in the correct order and use them to tell Arons story to their partner. Try toadd more details from the reading. Then retell the story to the class._ On April 26, 2003, he had a serious mountain climbing accident._ Aron loves mountain climbing and dosent mind taking risks._ Aron did not give up after the accident and keeps on climbing mountains today._ He wrote a book about his experience._ Aron lost half his right arm from the 2003 accident.8Group-work(5mins)T notes we just read and retell the story about Aron Ralston. And Do you think Aron is an unbelieveable hero? Why? . Do you have any other questions about the accident? Give some extra clues when necessary (about first aid). What is the spirit of Aron?
