Of major concern to Amtrak and its advertising agency DDB Needham, were the long-distance western routes where ridership had been declining significantly. At one time, trains were the only practical way to cross the vast areas of the west. Trains were fast, very luxurious, and quite convenient compared to other forms of transportation existing at the time. However, times change and the automobile became Americas standard of convenience. Also, air travel had easily established itself as the fastest method of traveling great distances. Therefore, the task for DDB Needham was to encourage consumers to consider other aspects of train travel in order to change their attitudes and increase the likelihood that trains would be considered for travel in the west. Two portions of the total market were targeted: 1) anxious fliersthose concerned with safety, relaxation, and cleanliness and 2) travel-loversthose viewing themselves as relaxed, casual, and interested in the travel experience as part of their vacation. The agency then developed a campaign that focused on travel experiences such as freedom, escape, relaxation, and enjoyment of the great western outdoors. It stressed experiences gained by using the trains and portrayed western train trips as wonderful adventures.Advertisements showed pictures of the beautiful scenery that could be enjoyed along some of the more famous western routes and emphasized the romantic names of some of these trains (Empire Builder, etc.). These ads were strategically placed among family-oriented TV shows and programs involving nature and America in order to most effectively reach target audiences. Results were impressive. The Empire Builder, which was focused on in one ad, enjoyed a 15 percent increase in profits on its Chicago to Seattle route.56. Whats the authors purpose in writing this passage?A) To show the inability of trains to compete with planes with respect to speed and convenience.B) To stress the influence of the automobile on Americas standard of convenience.C) To emphasize the function of travel agencies in market promotion.D)To illustrate the important role of persuasive communication in changing consumer attitudes.57.It can be inferred from the passage that the drop in Amtrak ridership was due to the fact that _.A) trains were not suitable for short distance passenger transportationB) trains were not the fastest and most convenient form of transportationC) trains were not as fast and convenient as they used to beD) trains could not compete with planes in terms of luxury and convenience58.To encourage consumers to travel by train, DDB Needham emphasized _.A) the freedom and convenience provided on trainsB) the practical aspects of train travelC) the adventurous aspects of train tripsD) the safety and cleanliness of train trips59. The train ads were placed among family-oriented TV programs involving nature and America because _.A) they could focus on meaningful travel experiencesB) they could increase the effectiveness of the TV programsC) their profits could be increased by some 15 percentD) most travel-lovers and nervous fliers were believed to be among the audiences60.According to the passage, the Empire Builder enjoyed an increase in ridership and profits because _.A) the attractiveness of its name and route was effectively advertisedB) it provided an exciting travel exper5ienceC) its passengers could enjoy the great western outdoorsD) it was widely advertised in newspapers and magazines in Chicago and SEattlePassage Two Questions 61 to 65 are based on the following passage: Psychologists now believe that noise has a considerable effect on peoples attitudes and behaviors. Experiments have proved that in noisy situations (even temporary ones), people behave more irritably and less cooperatively; in more permanent noisy situations, many people cannot work hard, and they suffer from severe anxiety as well as other psychological problems. However, psychologists distinguish between “sound” and “noise”. “Sound” is measured physically in decibels. “Noise” cannot be measured in the same way because it refers to the psychological effect of sound and its level of “intensity” depends on the situation. Thus, for passengers at an airport who expect to hear airplanes taking off and landing, there may be a lot of sound, but not much noise (that is, they are not bothered by the noise). By contrast, if you are at a concert and two people behind you are whispering, you feel they are talking noisily even if there is not much sound. You notice the noise because it affects you psychologically. Both sound and noise can have negative effects, but what is most important is if the person has control over the sound. People walking down the street with earphones, listening to music that they enjoy, are receiving a lot of decibels of sound, but they are probably happy hearing sounds which they control. On the other hand, people in the street without earphones must tolerate a lot of noise which they have no control over. It is noise pollution that we need to control in order to help people live more happily.61. According to the passage, people _A) can not work in a noisy situationB) will suffer from complete deafness because of noise pollutionC) can be psychologically affected by working in very noisy factoriesD) may cooperate well in a noisy surrounding62. “Sound”, as defined by the psychologists, _. A) can be measured in the same way that “noise” is measuredB) may be extremely harmful to healthC) is not at all different from “noise”D) can be measured by machines63. The intensity of noise can be measured by _. A) its effect on peoples hearingB) its decibelC) how much it affects people psychologicallyD) how long it lasts64 According to the passage, which of the following is sound rather than noise?A) A couples whisper behind you in the cinema.B) The snore of your roommate.C) The loud motor-horn in the street.D) The sound of airplanes taking off and landing when you are waiting to board plane.65. We can conclude from the passage that we need to control noise pollution if _.A) we want to stay both psychologically and physically healthyB) we want to have better control over ourselvesC) we want to cooperate wellD) we dont want to be anxiousPassage Three Questions 66 to 80 are based on the following passage: S 296-010-J00(9) Inspect the compressor for oil leaks (Fig.603)(a) Insert borescope probe in port B 1-0 and observe for oil wetting or staining as follows: ( 9 )检查压缩机漏油( fig.603 ) ( a )在B 1-0处插入孔探头,并观察滑油润湿或着色如下:1) View down and forward at the 6 oclock fan frame strut No.7 trailing edge. Inspect the radial aft weld bead on the strut fairing from the upper to lower extremes for oil wetting. If oil is flowing down the weld it will show a rippling effect. Check for a puddle or oil wetting at the lower end of the strut will appear as a shiny oval area just aft of the strut trailing edge. 2) View aft and inspect the inlet guide vanes and 1st stage blades for oil wetting and/or brown oil stains. 3) Position the probe to inspect the split line area in front of the inlet guide vane inner shroud. NOTE: Oil wetting of the fan frame strut and/or the inlet guide vanes, and the aft core blades and vanes, may occur as a result of leakage of oil from the “A” sump enclosure as a result of an engine “hung tart” or no fan rotation, without any fault in the lube system. (b) Insert borescope probe in borescope port B1-1 and observe for oil wetting or staining as follows: 在孔探口B1-1插入孔探探头,观察油润湿或染色如下:1) Position the probe as shown in Fig.603. Manually rotate the core (Ref 72-00-00/201) and inspect for oil wetting and/or brown stains. As the core is rotated observe for oil dripping from the drain holes in the 1st stage disk. Observe for oil wetting (drops) on nuts and shroud. 1 )的立场,探头显示,在fig.603 。手动旋转的核心(档号72-00-00/201 )和检查石油润湿和/或褐色污渍。为核心的是旋转观察石油滴水从排水孔,在第一阶段的磁盘。观察油润湿(下降) ,坚果和裹尸布。2) Move the probe outward and inspect the 1st stage blades and vanes, and 2nd stage blades for oil wetting and/or brown oil s
