历史类阅读理解选练(5)【2014高考英语河南省开封市一模】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A.B.C和D项中,选出最佳选项。 On a clear night, the sky is a wonderful thing. Is there life out there somewhere? Is there another place like Earth where life might exist? If so, where is it? And how far away is it? Recently, the American Kepler spacecraft found 22b , a planet about six hundred light years away. It is the first planet in a habitable zone outside the solar system. That means the planet orbits a star like our Sun, but it is not too close to it, nor too far away. Because of this position, scientists say Kepler22b might have water, one of the main things needed for life. The newly-discovered planet is about two and a half times larger than the Earth. It is closer to its star than we are to the Sun, but 22bs sun is smaller than ours, and doesnt produce as much heat. Scientific instruments show the new planet could be made of gases, rocks or some kinds of liquids. The Kepler spacecraft was named in honor of Johannes Kepler, the seventeenth century German astronomer. It was designed to examine a small part of the Milky Way galaxy and search for places like the Earth. It was made to inspect over 150,000 stars and measure how bright they are. It looks to see if a stars brightness gets less over a short time. If a planet passes between Kepler and the star, it blocks out part of the light. That is what suggested to scientists that there is at least one planet orbiting the star. The instruments on Kepler show the new planet as a small, black dot moving across its sun. An important part of the Kepler experiment is on the Earth. After the spacecraft gathers information, scientists use the space telescopes on the ground. Scientists have found over 2,300 new planets since Kepler was launched. About 200 of these are about the size of the Earth. Most are much larger, but it is the new planets distance from its star that is important. For life to possibly exist there, the planets temperature must not be too hot or too cold.63. What can we learn about Kepler-22b? A. Water must have been existed on it. B. It takes humans about 600 years to get there. C. It is made of gases, rocks and many kinds of liquids. D. It is the first planet in outer space where life may survive.64. The Kepler spacecraft was sent into space to _. A. show honor to Johannes Kepler B. look for Earth-like planets in the sky C. observe the changes of a stars brightness D. measure the brightest star among 150,000 stars65. In Paragraph 5 the author mainly tells us_. A. how the Kepler system works B. if the Kepler system sees a new planet C. how the Kepler system uses the space telescopes D. why an important part of the Kepler system remains on the Earth66. What can we infer from the passage? A. Life may exist on the new planet in another form. B. It is colder on the new planet because its sun is smaller. C. Life cant exist on planets which are much larger than the Earth. D. The new planets distance from its star decides on the possibilitv of life existence.【参考答案】6366DBAD 阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。How Room Designs Affect Our Work and FeelingsArchitects have long had the feeling that the places we live in can affect our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. But now scientists are giving this feeling an empirical(经验的, 实证的) basis. They are discovering how to design spaces that promote creativity, keep people focused, and lead to relaxation. Researches show that aspects of the physical environment can influence creativity. In 2007, Joan Meyers-Levy at the University of Minnesota, reported that the height of a rooms ceiling affects how people think. Her research indicates that higher ceilings encourage people to think more freely, which may lead them to make more abstract connections. Low ceilings, on the other hand, may inspire a more detailed outlook. In addition to ceiling height, the view afforded by a building may influence an occupants ability to concentrate. Nancy Wells and her colleagues at Cornell University found in their study that kids who experienced the greatest increase in greenness as a result of a family move made the most gains on a standard test of attention. Using nature to improve focus of attention ought to pay off academically, and it seems to, according to a study led by C. Kenneth Tanner, head of the School Design & Planning Laboratory at the University of Georgia. Tanner and his team found that students in classrooms with unblocked views of at least 50 feet outside the window had higher scores on tests of vocabulary, language arts and maths than did students whose classrooms primarily overlooked roads and parking lots. Recent study on room lighting design suggests that dim (暗淡的) light helps people to loosen up. If that is true generally, keeping the light low during dinner or at parties could increase relaxation. Researchers of Harvard Medical School also discovered that furniture with rounded edges could help visitors relax. So far scientists have focused mainly on public buildings. “We have a very limited number of studies, so were almost looking at the problem through a straw(吸管),” architect David Allison says. “How do you take answers to very specific questions and make broad, generalized use of them? Thats what were all struggling with.”1. What does Joan Meyers-Levy focus on in her research? A. Light. B. Ceilings. C. Windows. D. Furniture.2. The passage tells us that.A. the shape of furniture may affect peoples feelingsB. lower ceilings may help improve students creativityC. children in a dim classroom may improve their gradesD. students in rooms with unblocked views may feel relaxed3. The underlined sentence in the last paragraph probably means that.A. the problem is not approached step by stepB. the researches so far have faults in themselvesC. the problem is too difficult for researchers to detectD. research in this area is not enough to make generalized patterns4. Which of the following shows the organization of the passage? CP:Central PointP:PointSp:Sub-point(次要点)C:Conclusion【参考答案】14、BADC阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。The 2012 London Olympics had enough problems to worry about. But one more has just been addeda communications blackout caused by solar storms. After a period of calm within the Sun,scientists have detected the signs of a fresh cycle of sunspots that could peak in 2012,just in time for the arrival of the Olympic torch in London. Now scientists believe that this peak could result in vast solar explosions that could throw billions of tons of charged matter towards the Earth, causing strong solar storms that could jam the telecommunications satellites and internet links sending live Olympic broadcast from London.“The Suns activity has a strong influence on the Earth. The Olympics could be in the middle of the next solar maximum which could affect the functions of communications satellites,“ said Professor Richard Harrison, head of space physics at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire. At the peak of the cycle, violent outbursts calledcoronal mass ejections(日冕物质抛射) occur in the Suns atmosphere, throwing out great quantities of electrically-charged matter. “A coronal mass ejection can carry a billion tons of solar material into space at over a million kilometres per hour. Such events can expose astronauts to a deadly amount, can disable satellites, cause power failures on Earth and disturb communications,” Professor Harrison added. The risk is greatest during a solar maximum when there is the greatest number of sunspots.Next week in America,NASA is scheduled to launch a satellite for monitoring solar activity called the Solar Dynamics Observatory(SDO),which will take images of the Sun that are 10 times clearer than the most advanced televisions available. The Rutherford Appleton Laboratory helped to make the high-tech cameras that will capture images of thesolar flares(太阳耀斑) and explosions as they occur.Professor Richard Holdaway, the labs director, said that the SDO should be able to provide early warning of a solar flare or explosion big enough to affect satellite communications on Earth. “If we have advance warning, well be able to reduce the damage. What you dont want is things switching off for a week with no idea of whats caused the problem,” he said.1. The phrase “communications blackout” in Paragraph 1 most probably refers toduring the 2012 Olympics.A. the extinguishing of the Olympic torch B. the collapse of broadcasting systemsC. the transportation breakdown in London D. the destruction of weather satellites2. What can be inferred about the solar activity described in the passage?A. The most fatal matter from the corona falls onto Earth.B. The solar storm peak occurs in the middle of each cycle.C. It takes several seconds for the charged matter to reach Earth.D. The number of sunspots declines after coronal mass ejections.3. According to the passage,NASA will launch a satellite to.A. take images of the solar system B. provide early warning of thunderstormsC. keep track of solar activities D. improve the communications on Earth4. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?A. Solar Storms:An Invisible KillerB. Solar Storms:Earth Environment in DangerC. Solar Storms:Threatening the Human RaceD. Solar Storms:Human Activities to Be Troubled【参考答案】14、BDCD【2014高考英语河南省开封市一模】D阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A.B.C和D项中,选出最佳选项。 Personal Background Steve Jobs Apple Computer 3-year return: 26% Age: 42 CEO since: 1997 Heres a guy with enough knowledge, ability and brainpower to effectively hold down two CEO jobs at once-and do a pretty amazing job at both. Weve listed him for his post at Apple, but of course Steve Jobs also runs Pixar, the animation company. Coming in after a $ I billion loss in fiscal 1997 ,Jobs turned a $ 106 million profit-38 percent above Wall Streets consensus target. A lot of credit goes to a very simple idea: Make computers in different colors. Jobs was the only one who thought to make it hap pen. The colorful mid-priced iMac has also succeeded by playing down the compatibility (蒹容性) problem. Apple positioned it as the machine for the Internet, where compatibility questions are no big deal. Behind the scenes, Jobs streamlined the product line ,and also did a whole series of work for improving and selling the production. Mean-while, over at Pixar, A Bugs Life nabbed a total $ 159 million in domestic box office ,the highest domestic animated take since Toy Story and third highest ever. after Toy Story and the leader, The Lion King. Business philosophy: The technology isnt the hard part. The hard part is: whos going to buy it. How are they going to buy it? How do you tell them about it? How he got the job: The Apple board begged him to return. Management Style: At Apple, Jobs is a micromanager-some say nanomanager who changes mood suddenly and unexpectedly. Virtually every decision
