Section B.语法填空 AIf youve ever had a dog, you know just how deep a connection you can develop with “mans best friend”. But a dog has a much (25)_ (short) life span (长度) about 12 to 15 years long than humans, which means every dog owner has to go through the heartbreaking moment (26)_ their loving pet passes away. Why not make a clone of that dog then? This is the solution offered by a South Korean company, Sooam Biotech Research Foundation. The company has successfully cloned at least 400 dogs, mostly (27)_ US customers, ever since it pioneered the technique in 2005. Now, Sooam Biotech (28)_ (plan) to introduce their business to UK dog owners, (29)_ (offer) them dogs that look just like their lost ones.To clone a dog, researchers first need (30)_ (take) a skin cell from a living dog or (31)_ that has just died. Meanwhile, another dog is selected to supply an egg. Researchers then replace the DNA in the egg with that from the skin cell and implant the egg into the womb (子宫) of a female dog. The egg grows into a puppy over the following two months. The whole process takes less than a day, but it comes at a shockingly high price around 63,000 (614,000 yuan). But (32)_ you cant afford it now, you can also save the cells in a laboratory and access them at a later date.BWhy do you think air conditioning (33)_ (invent)? And (37)_ that thought led to is a new wristband (腕带) called “Wristify”.The concept behind this wristband is that heating or cooling parts of our body (38)_ help influence how hot or cold we feel in general. For example, you feel much warmer just from holding a cup of hot water whereas you feel cooler with a cold towel on your forehead.(39)_ (base) on this concept, Wristify monitors the temperature of the air and skin, sending pulses of hot or cold waveforms to the wrist to help maintain a comfortable temperature. The team has estimated that if the air conditioner and radiator in one building had to change the temperature just one degree Celsius less, around 100 kilowatt-hours (40)_ (save) per month, according to the Daily Mail. With their new wristband, the team took home the first prize at MITs science design competition this year. They also received funding to continue to develop the device so that one day it can find its way into the market. Now, a new study has tracked how low self control can predict poor health, money troubles and even a criminal record in their adult years. The study began with 1,000 children in New Zealand. Researchers followed them for decades. They observed the level of self-control the youngsters displayed. Parents, teachers, even the kids themselves, scored the youngsters on measures like “acting before thinking” and “persistence in reaching goals.”The children of the study are now adults in their thirties. Terrie Moffitt of Duke University found that kids with self-control issues tended to grow up to become adults with a far more troubling set of issues to deal with.“The children who had the lowest self-control when they were age three to 10, early years, later on had the most health problems in their thirties,” Moffitt said, “and they had the worst financial situation. They were more likely to have a criminal record and to be raising a child as a single parent on a very low income.”Moffitt explained that self-control problems were widely observed, and werent just a feature of a small group of misbehaving kids.“Even the children who had above-average self-control as pre-schoolers, could have benefited from more self-control training. They could have improved their financial situation and their physical and mental health situation 30 years later.”So, children with minor self-control problems were likely as adults to have minor health problems, and so on.Moffitt said its still unclear why some children have better self-control than others, though oth
