To my point of view, it was just like recording a song or a sound. On the contrary, this is a challenging work. First, we should have a good verbal language, good at listening and comprehension, different cultures, talking speed and mood, etc. there are so many things to learn in just a practice. It requires not only knowledge, but the application of language included. Journal twoLooking at the materials our teacher gave us, I have no idea what to do with it. It is the obstacle that stuck me from extending my work. What should I se to record my sound? Cool-edit, it seems so easy to learn a softwares use, but rather difficult in fact. I must learn how to find a point to balance the raw material sound and mine so that others could hear clearly. I acquired the skill to transfer one king of file into another one. Sometimes, you could learn more from one thing though another one practice. This is what I know this week. And its the most significant to make full use of mixture skills in one thing.Journal threeI like simultaneous interpretation practice, not only because of a sense of achievement, but a good teacher besides. A good course, according to my mind, is not a communication of knowledge, most importantly the transfer of minds, various kinds of minds transmission. Whats better, I could enjoy such a class. This class abstract me by showing its charms and splendid.Journal fourA few days practice and being familiar to the materials, I found that in many occasions, theres no need to interpret every word and every sentence. Sometimes, the speaker repeats a sentence many times, they just want to earn more time to think for whats being told next by a seconds stop or repeating many times a sentence or a phrase. We have the responsibility to correct the mistakes. But, in many conditions, when the speaker wants to stress one thing, the use of repetition may occur. We should clarify what condition it is as an simultaneous interpreter. Journal fiveSo quick I find sometimes the speaker speed of talking. If we come across the situation, its a good way by interpret what the speaker expressed before, not to tell totally the sentence they said. This is also a preferable skill we should use in our practice of simultaneous interpretation. What should be pointed out is that, we couldnt use such a kind of means. Or, the work may seem to be boring enough for us to deal with.Journal sixHalf a month has already passed by, Ive seen so many obstacles before me and being crossed over. Today, what suck me so long time is the deal with numbers in the speech. In China, people always are used to read a number from the end of the figure while the western people are accustomed to count from the head of a number. This is what leads to my difficulty in interpreting the speech. I thought, teacher Shi was right, theres no need to read the accurate figure, we should translate it as a approximate number. This makes us to follow the tone of the speaker.Journal sevenTired as I am today, I got a cold a few days before. In such a condition, doing practice is a torment. I must listen to about half an hours video and interpret it as accurate as I can. I just suddenly be enlightened that any work needs a good body. Maybe we dont see highly of our bodies, but just think that, how could the interpreter insist working a whole day long or even more time? The basically element to simultaneous interpreting is to own a good body and a responsibility.Journal eightEconomy, politics, army, submit, etc. in interpreting, we may see many subjects around the corner. Such as politics. It requires our responsibility to translate accurately and appropriately. Or, it may lead to conflicts and mistakes because of our unprofessional. No matter if we are professional or not, we should have the responsibility mentioned ahead since we first started out work in simultaneous interpreting. Journal nineAll of us ought to be able to brace ourselves for the predictable challenges and setbacks that crop up everyday. If we expect that life wont be perfect, well be able to avoid that impulse to quit. But even if you are strong enough to insist the obstacle course of life and work, sometimes you will encounter an adverse event that will completely knock you on your back.Whether its a financial loss, the loss of respect of your peers or loved ones, or some other traumatic events in your life, these major setbacks leave you doubting yourself and wondering if things can ever change for the better again.Adversity happens to all of us, and it happens all the time. Some form of major adversity is either going to be there or its lying in wait just around the corner. To ignore adversity is to succumb to the ultimate self delusion.But you must recognize that history is full of examples of men and women who achieved greatness despite facing hurdles so steep that easily could have crashed their spirit and left them lying in the dust. Moses was a stutterer, yet he was called on to be the voice of God. Abraham Lincoln overcame all difficulties during the Civil War to become our arguable greatest president ever. Helen Keller made an impact on the world despite being deaf, dumb, and blind from an early age. Franklin Roosevelt had polio.There are endless examples. These were people who not only looked adversity in the face but learned valuable lessons about overcoming difficult circumstances and were able to move ahead.Journal tenHowever mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it or call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The fault-finder will find faults even in paradise. Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the window of the alms-house as brightly as from the rich mans abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace. The towns poor seem to me often to live the most independent lives of any. Maybe they are simply great enough to receive without misgivings. Most think that they are above being supported by the town; but it often happens that they are not above supporting themselves by dishonest means, which should be more disreputable. Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn to the old, turn to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.Journal elevenI have rested for a week. I began to feel bored. So I went out with my friends. They are my best friends in the middle school. We didnt go to someplace special. We just saw the other. We had lunch together. While we were having lunch, we were still talking about the new school and new friends. A year later, we have grown riper. And we learned much more things and got new life. We havent enough time to play, to waste and to lose the way. We only have two years. Two years to go, we will get the real life which belongs to us.Journal twelveToday I found time was a cruel thing. Whatever man is, time always goes on. It wont stay to wait for somebody. You cant use anything to exchange time. Time is also a fair thing. Although you have a lot of money or you enjoy high reputation, time wont leave them more. Today I found I hadnt enough time. Although I havemore than one week left, but I found I had a lot of things to do. I had a lot of homework to do and I had something necessary to do.Most importantly, I forgot a weeks journal and continuing the practice.Journal thirteenNow that the world is arealistic world and inside itmy life role plays a realistic life shouldnt be boundby no principles. Firstly, the material that I am allowed and naturally possess is alwaysin practiceexisting but limited, so there is either acry formy ownearnings, or the passionfor austerity.Secondly, as dishonorably as I am livingmy actual life, I am causing burdens on those who insist on feeding me,andmyattachment to them causes unfavorable links of responsibilitybetween my life and theirs. Such being the case, I am livingneither independentlynor originally, forasmuchmy lifeinvolves others, and others involve mine. To conclude, there is anyway no life of abandon, at least for most people; so the overall principle of my life is to live on my own.Journal fourteenAmazing and happy when I first heard the news that our teacher will not attend next weeks class because of his fathers illness.
