Unit 4 Why dont you talk to your parents? The Second Period Section A (3a- 3c)Teaching Objectives:I. Knowledge and Skills:1. Master the new words and phrases: (1). relation, communication, argue, cloud, elder, instead, whatever, nervous, offer, proper, secondly, communicate, explain, clear(2). get on with, communicate with, argue with sb. about/over sth. instead of, explain to sb. sth. 2. Learn how to talk about problems and give advice.(1). I dont know if I should say anything to them about this.(2). When they argue, its like a big, black cloud hanging over our home.(3). Teaching Difficult Points: How to talk about problems and give advice.Teaching Aids:An English textbook and a projector.Teaching Procedures:Step 1 Lead-inGreet the class and check the homework.Step 2 Presentation1. Teach the new words. Show the new words on the screen. Point them one by one, ask some students read them and explain their meanings. Then, have students read them. Encourage students to try to make sentences with them.2. Teach Activity 3a. Let the students have a fast reading of the two letters and try to get the main idea. Then ask some of the students to retell the general idea. Tell them underline some key words and expressions they cant understand while theyre reading.After they finish reading the letters, ask a student to retell Sad and Thirteens problem and the advice from Hunt.Have the students read the letters again. Tell them to pay attention to the pronunciation of some new words. Explain some language points at the same time. (1) I dont know if I should say anything to them about this.eg. I wonder if/whether I can get some advice from you. Ask him whether/if he can come (or not ). Then, divide the students into groups to talk about if they agree with Mr. Hunts advice or disagree and why. Give them enough time to do the discussion. Finally, ask some students to express their opinions. Encourage them to give some other advice to Sad and Thirteen.Step 4 ConsolidationTeach Activity 3c. T: After the study of two reading materials, weve learned how to talk about our problems and how to give advice to others, and weve also learned some key words. Now, lets have a look at the instructive of 3c. Have the students look at the instruction and the sample sentence. Help them know how to do this task.Give the students several minutes to find the words or phrases with the same or similar meanings as the words and phrases in the box and write a sentence using each word or phrase.Later, ask some students to present their work.
