AAt my daughters recent graduation,a speaker kept repeating,“You can do anything with a degree in philosophy.”To that,I thought you can do anything with the right attitude. For all of you entrepreneurs(创业者)struggling to make ends meet but committing to seeing your dreams through, this article is for you.I didnt have a fulltime job until I was 27.When I was hired,I was basically starving. My car had broken down.I was living with two other people and sleeping on a couch. My family and friends thought I was going_nowhere.I didnt feel that way though.I wasnt doing well financially.Sure, friends of mine got married and bought houses. But neither of those choices excited me.Taking the road less traveled is part of being an entrepreneur.I wanted to follow my dream, which was to work with my hands and be creative.I wanted to be my own boss.At the time,I was making toy animals and selling them at street fairs.I was learning how to sell them to people. It wasnt easy, but I stayed true to myself.I was enthusiastic and hardworking.I know those were the qualities that led me to get hired at my first job.So dont give up hope. One Sunday,I read an article about a startup in Fremont called Worlds of Wonder(WoW)It was a toy company.I knew I could make a better teddy bear than the one they were marketing, although I had designed just a few cuddly toys for another company. The next day,I visited WoWs offices in person and told them they needed me.To my surprise, they agreed to interview me.They could tell I was enthusiastic.I was so enthusiastic,in fact, that I had bought a new suit for the occasion. Many of us dont take on new things because were sure we dont have the skills. But from my experience, its far more important to have the right attitude.Almost everything can be taught. Are you a ready and willing student? 1This passage is designed for those who_.Aare studying at universityBdont believe in the speakerChave interest in that way though.I wasnt doing well financially.” C。3What should people do to realize their dreams according to the passage?AThey should be cut off from friends.BThey should never establish a home.CThey should avoid buying their houses.DThey should be persistent in their dreams.D推理判断题。 4Before he went to the WoWs offices the author_.Aseemed uncertain about his designBhad designed the best teddy bearCappeared to be full of confidenceDhad decided to give in to setbacksC细节理解题。依据文章第五段中的“I knew I could make a better teddy bear than the one they were marketing”以及“told them they needed me”可知,作者去WoW的办公室前,信心满满。BA new collection of photos brings an unsuccessful Antarctic voyage back to life.Frank Hurleys pictures would be outstandingundoubtedly firstrate photojournalismif they had been made last week.In fact, they were shot from 1914 through 1916,most of them after a disastrous shipwreck(海滩),by a cameraman who had no reasonable expectation of survival. Many of the images were stored in an ice chest, under freezing water,in the damaged wooden ship. The ship was the Endurance,a small, tight,Norwegianbuilt threemaster that was intended to take Sir Ernest Shackleton and a small crew of seamen and scientists,27 men in all,to the southernmost shore of Antarcticas Weddell Sea.From that point Shackleton wanted to force a passage by dog sled(雪橇)across the continent. The journey wag intended to achieve more than what Captain Robert Falcon Scott had done.Captain Scott had reached the South Pole early in 1912 but had died with his four companions on the march back.As writer Caroline Alexander makes clear in her forceful and wellresearched story The Endurance, adventuring was even then a thoroughly commercial effort.Scotts last journey, completed as he lay in a tent dying of cold and hunger, caught the worlds imagination, and a film made in his honor drew crowds.Shackleton,a onetime British merchantnavy officer who had got to within 100 miles of the South Pole in 1908,started a business before his 1914 voyage to make money from movie and still photography.Frank Hurley,a confident and gifted Australian photographer who knew the Antarctic, was hired to make the images, most of which have never before been published. 5What do we know about the photos taken by Hurley?AThey were made last week.BThey showed undersea
