Glass Beach saw large cleanup projects in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but the glass from bottles and other things remained, worn smooth over time.Glass Beach is one of Mendocino Countys most popular tourist attractions, as its one of the most plentiful sources(来源)of sea glass in the world. But if you want to see this California treasure, go now, because it will likely be gone before we know it. Everybody is taking the glass and collecting it, so theres not as much as there used to be, said a clerk at Fort Braggs tourist information office. In fact, even though taking away sea glass from the beach is prohibited(禁止), rangers, who look after California State Parks, see people taking the smooth glass pieces home in Ziploc bags all the time. They try to stop people who fill up metal boxes as large as rubbish bins with sea glass, but theres only so much they can prevent, they say. The locals will tell you that the beach used to be covered in a foot of sea glass so smooth that you could walk on it with bare feet, but these days glass is difficult to come by on parts of the beach. Many say their only hope is to spread the word about the beach and they ask people to begin minding the signs that say glass collecting prohibited. For many, the destruction(破坏)of Glass Beach is ironic(讽刺的), as it was the human preference for destruction that created the beach in the first place. Without human waste, the beach would never have been present. For now, Glass Beach remainsand heres to hoping we humans can keep it that way.53. Glass Beach used to be A. a dump B. a project C. a tourist attraction D. a state park54. Whats the trouble for Glass Beach? A. There are too many visitors at present. B. There is less and less sea glass. C. It has been polluted heavily. D. It is not attractive any more.55. The writer of the passage may agree that A. people should be responsible for the destruction of Glass Beach B. people should be prohibited from visiting Glass Beach C. more sea glass should be placed on Glass Beach D. more signs should be put up on Glass BeachD A few months ago I was visiting a friend of mine who teaches high school English. We were in his classroom and he showed me his grade book. I noticed that in some of his classes, most of the students were missing most of their schoolwork. I asked him about this. “Theres really not much I can do about it. I give schoolwork, collect it, grade it and post the scores online. Some kids just dont turn in their work. Other than giving them an F, theres not much else I can do, since some kids simply couldnt care less about their grades.” I explained how things work in my classroom. I give work and then collect it. If a student doesnt have it, they do it during recess(休息时间). Period. No questions, no complaining, no discussion. Their names go up on the whiteboard and they come back to the room after lunch to get it done. Im in the room anyway, taking care of paperwork, and I dont mind the students staying with me. And if someone misbehaves or wastes time during the day, I put a mark next to their name on my clipboard. Each mark means one minute of lost recess during our second recess, which we have toward the end of the day. I use first recess to take care of missing schoolwork and I use second recess to take care of misbehavior. And it works beautifully. I have the bestbehaved class in the school with almost no missing schoolwork. But then I came across this article in USA Today. Basically, many pediatricians(儿科医生)want us to leave recess sacred:dont make kids do schoolwork when they should be out playing and dont use recess as a form of punishment. In other words, dont do what I do. I can see their point. Recess is an important time for kids to blow off steam, get some exercise, talk to friends, and just“be kids. ”For most children, its their favorite time of the day. It certainly was for me, when I was young. But pediatricians arent teachers. They deal with one kid at a time, for ten or fifteen minutes, with their parents in the room. Theyre not trying to make 25 to 30 kids work quietly at something most of them would rather not do for seven hours a day. At a certain level, teachers need some power to do what they want. For those of us at the elementary level, recess gives us that. 56. According to the passage, some kids fail to hand in their schoolwork because A. their teachers always give them an F B. they dont care about their grades C. they think the schoolwork is too difficult D. their teachers are too busy to grade their papers57. What does the underlined word sacred in Paragraph 6 mean? A. lost B. popular C. unknown D. unchanged58. What can we infer from the passage? A. The writer wants to keep using recess in his teaching. B. The writers friend doesnt care about his students. C. The pediatrician can do better jobs than the teacher. D. The writer is unsure of using recess in his teaching.59. Which could be the best title? A. Recess and Schoolwork B. A Discussion about Recess C. Two Teachers Teaching Methods D. The first word is mobile, which means a mobile camera phone or camera. The second word is blog, a website for posting words and pictures. Usually, mobloggers are people who take photos or videos with their phones and post them on the Internet. Moblogging has caused a lot of excitement. It has also caused a lot of worries. With a picture phone and a moblog, anyone can be a reporter. Moblogging first got the worlds attention during a terrorist attack(恐怖袭击)on four London buses. People were posting photos on the Internet many minutes before real reporters could get there. Similarly, information about car accidents has been posted right away. Moblogging is done just for fun, too. On some moblogs you can find photos of friends making funny faces, photos from people traveling, and photos of new babies. Other fun moblogs might be about famous people, pictures of food in restaurants, or new clothes. However, moblogs can be dangerous, too. Not long ago in Korea, a womans dog made a mess on the train, but she refused to clean it up, became angry, and left. Her picture was taken and posted on the Internet, along with the story of what she did. People all around the country were angry with her. Imagine how she felt! Moblogging can be wonderful, but its really impolite to post another persons picture on the Internet without asking permission(许可). One idea from Japan may help: people can no longer quietly take pictures with their cell phones. Japanese cell phones click like a real camera when you take a picture.64. What two words make moblog?65. When did moblogging first get the worlds attention?66. Can we find photos of famous people on moblogs?67. How did people feel about the Korean womans behaviour?68.
