In order to realize preliminary evaluation of process design, a virtual processing algorithm for the intelligent stamping process was proposed. Using this algorithm, all phases, process design, process control and system implementation, can be performed virtually. To enhance the reliability of a system, a ductile fracture criterion was applied to the virtual system for fracture prediction. Through the implementation of the system, it was confirmed that all the process phases are virtually performed in order, and finally, cup height improvement was accomplished. This analytical result indicates that the virtual processing algorithm is highly useful for system evaluation during the design process before constructing the real system. Engineers can save time and cost savings considerable by using this virtual processing system.Article Outline1. Introduction2. Virtual processing system 2.1. System architecture2.2. Practical rules are proposed to select specifications of key mechatronic components in the hydraulic servo system, in order to efficiently construct an industry-level machine. With reasonable assumptions, a mathematical model of the injection speed control system is established and open-loop experimental data are then employed to validate the system model. By the model, a gain-scheduling PI controller and a fuzzy PI controller are presented, compared and then implemented into a digital signal processor (DSP) using standard C programming techniques. Experimental results are conducted to show that the two proposed controllers are capable of achieving satisfactory speed tracking performance. These developed techniques may provide useful references for engineers and practitioners attempting to design pragmatic, low-cost but high-performance ultra high-injection speed controllers.Article Outline1. Representatives from programs serving Chinese, Native American1, Latin-American, African-American, and Anglo-American families discussed cross-cultural issues in parenting and developed a set of guiding principles for the assessment of parentchild interaction, resulting in a revised ParentChild Observation Guide (PCOG: Bernstein, Percansky, & Hans, 1987 Bernstein, V. J., Percansky, C., and Hans, S. L. (1987, April). Screening for socialemotional impairment in infants born to teenage mothers. Paper presented at the biannual meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development, Baltimore, MD) and program-specific laboratory protocols. Data from ratings of videotapes of 683 preschoolers and their primary caregivers are presented. Across ethnic groups, parental sensitivity correlated with child involvement and parental discipline correlated with child compliance. Mean PCOG factor scores differed between ethnic groups, and correlations between PCOG factors and independent measures of child social skills and family environment differed across groups, suggesting that different aspects of parentchild interaction may have more salience in different ethnic groups. The collaborative process and how “best practice” was applied to the development of the PCOG and videotape protocol as well as strengths and limitations of the PCOG are discussed.Article Outline1. Personal digital assistants (PDAs) seem to be useful instruments to establish a seamless digital anesthesiological documentation. ObjectivesWe decided to implement a solution for direct integration of data gathered during the preoperative assessment into the existing data management infrastructure. Parallel to the development of the system, we surveyed the future users to match their wishes and needs as far as possible. System descriptionA C program embedding the preoperative AIMS data fields was developed. Data alignment with the Hospital information system (HIS) is controlled by a Java desktop software. The anaesthesiologist completes the available fields at the patients bedside following the same algorithm and integrity check as the PC version. Status reportOverall, 68% of the surveyed physicians supported the implementation of the system. The PDA solution has been available since May 2002. Data replication into the handheld and integration of mobile collected data into the AIMS generally work without problems. The HIS interconnection software converts the PDA file into the AIMS format for further processing. DiscussionT
