Maybe its time to rediscover the comfort of train travel.Anyone whos backpacked with a Eurail pass(欧洲火车通票)in the latter half of the 20th century will remember the long queues for tickets, unreliable timetables and slow cross-country trains. How things have changed. Now, you can book tickets onlineGoogle “Rail Europe”and find the best site for your areaand pay in your local currency. And thats merely the beginning of the new conveniences. The Eurostar (the railway service between London and France or Belgium, using the tunnel under the English Channel)is popular with Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who no doubt enjoys the convenience of landing dead in the centre of each capitalremoving travel time to and from airports, as well as very long check-ins. With Eurostar, just arrive 15 minutes before your train leaves and all will be well. There are a growing number of new-generation Euro trains that cross some of the prettiest countryside on the planeta fact that wont be lost even while youre moving along at 300km/h.The other brilliant aspect of Euro train travel is that there are no baggage restrictions(限制). Sure, there are cheap air tickets available, but if you want to carry more than 20 kg, watch the price increase with the extra baggage charges.Sitting back and watching the beautiful views roll by is holiday-making in itself, which opposed to speeding down the motorway in Italy, being beeped(按汽车喇叭)at by angry Italians for paying attention to the speed limit. And for the environmentally minded, consider this: the carbon footprint(the total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities)of train travel is tiny compared to air. You can walk around lightly.56、Vogue editor Anna Wintour chooses the Eurostar because .Ait saves her a lot of money Bit carries her exactly to the city centre Cit greatly reduces her carbon footprint Dshe can carry more than 20 kg of baggage57、The author thinks that booking tickets online is .Aimpractical Bcheap Cconvenient Dunsafe58、The purpose of the passage is to . I was living in Conyers, Georgia the summer it all happened. I was a second grader, but my best friend Stephanie was only in the first grade. Both of our parents were at work and most of the time they let us go our own way.It was a hot afternoon and we decided to have an adventure in Stephanies basement. As I opened the basement door, before us lay the biggest room, full of amazing things like guns, dolls, and old clothes. I ran downstairs, and spotted a red steel can. It was paint. I looked beyond it and there lay even more paint in bright colors like purple, orange, blue and green.“Stephanie, I just found us a project for the day. Get some paintbrushes. We are fixing to paint.” She screamed with excitement as I told her of my secret plans and immediately we got to work. We gathered all the brushes we could find and moved all of our materials to my yard. There on the road in front of my house, we painted big stripes (条纹) of colors across the pavement (人行道). Stripe by stripe, our colors turned into a beautiful rainbow. It was fantastic! The sun was starting to sink. I saw a car in the distance and jumped up as I recognize the car. It was my mother. I couldnt wait to show her my masterpiece. The car pulled slowly into the driveway and from the look on my mothers face, I could tell that I was in deep trouble. My mother shut the car door and walked towards me. Her eyes glaring, she shouted, “What in the world were you thinking? I understood when you made castles out of leaves, and climbed the neighbors trees, but this! Come inside right now!” I stood there glaring back at her for a minute, angry because she had insulted (侮辱) my art.“Now go clean it up!” Mother and I began cleaning the road. Tears ran down my cheeks as I saw my beautiful rainbow turn into black cement.Though years have now passed, I still wonder where my rainbow has gone. I wonder if, maybe when I get older, I can find my rainbow and never have to brush it away. I guess we all need some sort of rainbow to brighten our lives from time to time and to keep our hopes and dreams colorful.60、What did the writer want to do when his mother came home?ATo prevent her from seeing his painting. While Japan is seen as a getting-to-know-you stop, when Obama heads to the Singapore for the APEC meeting, he will likely face pressure on trade. “Many Asians are concerned about what US trade policy will be, and theyve been somewhat alarmed by the fact that the president really hasnt set out very much revision for what US trade policy is in his administration.”But the critical leg of the trip will come in China, his third stop where Obama will have to navigate the complex relationship with the country that is the largest holder of US debt. “As you say, you know, if you owe the bank one dollar, its your problem, if you owe the bank, you know, 3 million dollars, its the banks problem, so its similar with China. I mean they have no interest in trying to use the influence with us, because eventually, theyre the one that they own all those dollars.”Also on the table will be North Korea and Irans nuclear ambitions as well as cooperation on Afghanistan. With Obama enjoying sky high popularity level in the countries he is visiting, detailed results may be beside the point, given that Obama is still in his first year in office, analysts say this trip is mostly about laying the ground work for the future. 68、From the second paragraph, we can infer that .AJapan has not been the closest friend of AmericaBJapan and Singapore will give America some pressure on trade CJapan is concerned about what US trade policy will beDJapan decides not to rely on America too much69、The word“leg”in the third paragraph probably means .Aone of the parts of a football match that is played in two halvesBthe two long parts of your body that your feet are joined toCone of the upright parts that supports a piece of furnitureDa part of a long journey or process that is done one part at a time70、What can you infer about Chinas relation with America in the third paragraph?AChina will sell all its shares in US national debt.BIt will hurt China if the value of the dollar falls.CChina will not be the largest debt holder of US.DChina is US s overseas bank where US can borrow money.71、The author develops the passage mainly .Aby examples Bby cause and effect Cby comparison Dby order in time E Lets face it. No one drinks diet soda for the taste. People drink diet soda in the hope that it will help them lose weight or at least keep them from gaining it. Yet it seems to have exactly the opposite effect, according to a new study. Researchers from the University of Texas said those who drank two or more diet sodas a day had waist size increases that were six times greater than those of people who didnt drink diet soda. “What we saw was that the more diet sodas a person drinks, the more weight they were likely to gain,” said Sharon Fowler. The study was based on data from 474 participants in a larger, ongoing research project, where the participants were followed for nearly 10 years. While the findings were surprising, they also offer some explanations. Nutrition expert, Melanie Rogers, who works with overweight patients in New York, has found that when patients are switched from regular to diet soda, they dont lose weight at all. “We werent seeing weight loss necessarily, and that was confusing to us,” said Rogers. So why would diet soda cause weight gain? No one knows for sure yet, but it could be that people think they can eat more if they drink diet soda, and so over-compensate for the missing calories. A related study found some sweeteners(甜味剂)raised blood sugar levels in some mice. “Data from this and other potential studies suggest that the promotion of diet sodas and artificial sweeteners may be risky,” said study researcher Helen P. Hazuda, professor at the University of Texass school of medicine. “They” may be free of calories, but not of c
