The real milestones are less prepossessing. They come to the door of memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in, sniff around a bit and simply never leave. Our lives are measured by these.” - Susan B. Anthony “It is only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it were the only one we had.” - Elizabeth Kubler-Ross “One ought, everyday at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words.” - Johnann Wolfgang Von Goethe“To live is so startling it leaves little time for anything else.” - Emily Dickinson“We always attract into our lives whatever we think about most, believe in most strongly, expect on the deepest level, and imagine most vividly.”- Shakti Gawain “In life, you must try and be the type of person that your dog thinks you are.” - Anon “There is only one success - to be able to spend your life in your own way.” - Christopher Morley “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” - Albert Einstein “We are challenged on every hand to work untiring to achieve excellence in our lifework. Not all men are called to specialized or professional jobs; even fewer rise to the heights of genius in the arts and sciences; many are called to be laborers in factories, fields, and streets. But no work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence. If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the host of heaven and earth will pause to say, “Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” - Martin Luther King Jr.“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.” - John Homer Miller “It is only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it were the only one we had.” - Elizabeth Kubler-Ross “Nothing is worth more than this day.” - Goethe“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” - Sren Kirkegaard “Life is not a laughing matter - but can you imagine having to live without laughing?” - Leonard Sukhoru Kou= Challenge “Life is difficult. This is a great truth.one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult-once we truly understand and accept it-then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.” - M Scott Peck If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.- Anne BradstreetEvery hardship; every joy; every temptation is a challenge of the spirit; that the human soul may prove itself. The great chain of necessity wherewith we are bound has divine significance; and nothing happens which has not some service in working out the sublime destiny of the human soul. - Elias A. FordWhat is to give light must endure the burning. - Viktor E. FranklReal life isnt always going to be perfect or go our way, but the recurring acknowledgement of what is working in our lives can help us not only to survive but surmount our difficulties.- Sarah Ban BreathnachA man of character finds a special attractiveness in difficulty, since it is only by coming to grips with difficulty that he can realize his potentialities. - Charles de GaulleA dose of adversity is often as needful as a dose of medicine. - American proverbThings dont go wrong and break your heart so you can become bitter and give up. They happen to break you down and build you up so you can be all that you were intended to be. - Charles “Tremendous” JonesIf we study the lives of great men and women carefully and unemotionally we find that, invariably, greatness was developed, tested and revealed through the darker periods of their lives. One of the largest tributaries of the RIVER OF GREATNESS is always the STREAM OF ADVERSITY.- Cavett RobertIt is not good for all our wishes to be filled; through sickness we recognize the value of health; through evil, the value of good; through hunger, the value of food; through exertion, the value of rest. - Greek SayingAdversity causes some men to break, others to break records. - William A. Ward“All the adversity Ive had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me. You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” - Walt Disney “Where there is no struggle, there is no strength.” - Oprah Winfrey “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, “I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.” . . . You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” - Eleanor Roosevelt“He knows not his own strength that hath not met adversity.” - Ben Jonson “I love the person who can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.” - Thomas Paine“Every trial endured and weathered in the right spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before.” - James Buckham“The highest reward for a persons toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it.” - John Ruskin“Be willing to be uncomfortable. Be comfortable being uncomfortable. It may get tough, but its a small price to pay for living a dream.” - Peter McWilliams“Lifes up and downs provide windows of opportunity to determine your values and goals. Think of using all obstacles as stepping stones to build the life you want.” - Marsha Sinetar= Action “One of the marks of superior people is that they are action-oriented. One of the marks of average people is that they are talk-oriented.” - Brian Tracy “It is not what you say or hope or wish or intend but only what you do that counts. Your choices tell you unerringly who you really are.” - Brian Tracy“Actions are the seed of Fate. Deeds grow into Destiny.” - A.L. Linall, Jr.“Ideas wont keep; something must be done about them.” - Alfred Whitehead North“Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in.” - Andrew Jackson“Wisdom is knowing what to do next; skill is knowing how to do it; virtue is doing it.” - Anonymous“The path to success is to take massive, determined action.” - Anthony Robbins“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” - Edmund Burke“Ideas become powerful only if they appear in the flesh; an idea which does not lead to action by the individual and by groups remains at best a paragraph or a footnote in a book-provided the idea is original and relevant. It is like a seed stored in a dry place. If the idea is to have influence, it must be put into the soil, and the soil is people and groups of people.” - Erich Fromm“You cant build a reputation on what you are going to do.” - Henry Ford“Peace of mind occurs when our actions match our beliefs.” - Ian Guwler“All the beautiful sentiments in the world weigh less than a single lovely action.” - James Russell Lowell“Knowledge fueled by emotion equals action. Action is the ingredient that ensures results. Only action can cause reaction. Further, only positive action can cause positive reaction. Action. The whole world loves to watch those who make things happen, and it rewards them for causing waves of productive enterprise. I stress this because today I see many people who are really sold on affirmations. And yet there is a famous saying that “Faith without action serves no useful purpose.” How true! I have nothing against affirmations as a tool to create action. Repeated to reinforce a disciplined plan, affirmations can help create wonderful results. But there is also a very thin line between faith and folly. You see - affirmations without action can be the beginnings of self-delusion. And for your well-being there is little worse than self-delusion. The man who dreams of wealth and yet walks daily toward certain financial disaster and the woman who wishes for happiness and yet thinks thoughts and commits acts that lead her toward certain despair are both victims of the false hope which affirmations without action can manufacture. Why? Because words soothe and, like a narcotic, they lull us into a state of complacency. Remember this: TO MAKE PROGRESS YOU MUST ACTUALLY GET STARTED! The key is to take a step today. Whatever the project, start TODAY. Start clearing out a drawer of your newly organized desk . today. Start setting your first goal today. Start listening to motivational cassettes today. Start calling on one tough customer a day today. Write a long-overdue letter today. Anyone can! Even an uninspired person can start reading inspiring books. Now, I offer you this challenge: See how many things you can start and continue in this - the first day of your new beginning.” - Jim Rohn“Concern should drive us into action and not into depression.” - Karen Horney“A man is the sum of his actions, of what he has done, of what he can do. Nothing else.” - Mahatma Gandhi“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.” - Theodore RooseveltThere are four kinds of people:1. Those who make things happen2. Those who let things happen to them3. Those who wonder what happened4. Those who dont know anything happened!- Author unknown= Greatness “Great men are like eagles, and build their nest on some lofty solitude.” Arthur Schopenhauer“A desire for bigness has hurt many folks. Putting oneself in the limelight at the expense of others is a wrong idea of greatness. The secret of greatness rather than bigness is to acclimate oneself to ones place of service and be true to ones own convictions. A life of this kind of service will forever remain the measure of ones true greatness.” - Richard W. Shelly, Jr. “Creativity means believing you have greatness.” - Dr. Wayne W. Dyer “Let us consider the nature of true greatness in men. The people who can catch hold of mens minds and feelings and inspire them to do things bigger than themselves are the people who are remembered in history. . . . those who stir feelings and imagination and make men struggle toward perfection.” - Henry Eyring“Do not confuse notoriety and fame with greatness. . . . For you see, greatness is a measure of ones spirit, not a result of ones rank in human affairs.” - Sherman Finesilver“I cant believe that God put us on this earth to be ordinary.” - Lou Holtz“Greatness does not approach him who is forever looking down.” - Hitopadesa“No great man ever complains of want of opportunity.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson“Great men are true men, the men in whom nature has succeeded. They are not extraordinary - they are in the true order. It is the other species of men who are not what they ought to be.” - Henri Frederic Amiel“Be not afraid of greatness; some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.” - William Shakespeare “A great man will not trample upon a worm, nor sneak to an emperor.” - Thomas Fuller“Recipe for greatness To bear up under loss, to fight the bitterness of defeat and the weakness of grief, to be victor over anger, to smile when tears are close, to resist evil men and base instincts, to hate hate and to love love, to go on when it would seem good to die, to seek ever after the glory and the dream, to look up with unquenchable faith in something evermore about to be, that is what any man can do, and so be great.” - Zane Grey“If any man seeks for greatness, let him forget greatness and ask for truth, and he will find both.” - Horace Mann“The great man is he who does not lose his childs heart. “ - MenciusIf we are to be really great people, we must strive in good faith to play a great part in the world. We cannot avoid meeting great issues. All that we can determine for ourselves is whether we shall meet them well or ill.” - Theodore Roosevelt“Every great man is always being helped by everybody, for his gift is to get good out of all things and all persons.” - John Ruskin= Persistence “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan, press on has solved, and always will solve, the problems of the human race.” - Calvin Coolidge“Some people plant in the spring and leave in the summer. If youre signed up for a season, see it through. You dont have to stay forever, but at least stay until you see it through.” - Jim Rohn Dont Quit!“When things go wrong as they sometimes willWhen the road youre trudging seems all up hill. When funds are low and the debts are high. And you want to smile, but you have to sigh. When care is pressing you down a bit.Rest, if you must, but dont you quit.Life is queer with its twists and turns. As everyone of us sometimes learns. And many a failure turns aboutWhen he might have won had he stuck it out:Dont give up though the pace seems slow You may succeed with another blow.Success is failure turned inside out -The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. And you never can tell how close you are.It may be near when it seems so far:So stick to the fight when youre hardest hitIts when things seem worst that you must not QUIT.” - Author unknown “In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins- not through strength but by perseverance.” - H. Jackson Brown“People of mediocre ability sometimes achieve outstanding success because they dont know when to quit. Most men succeed because they are determined to.” - George E. Allen“Its not so important who starts the game but who finishes it.” - John Wooden“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all.” - Dale Carnegie“. . . The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong. . .” - Ecclesiastes 9:11, The Bible“One of the commonest mistakes and one of the costliest is thinking that success is due to some genius, some magic - something or other which we do not possess. Success is generally due to holding on, and failure to letting go. You decide to learn a language, study music, take a course of reading, train yourself physically. Will it be success or failure? It depends upon how much pluck and perseverance that word “decide” contains. The decision that nothing can overrule, the grip that nothing can detach will bring success. Remember the Chinese proverb, “With time and patience, the mulberry leaf becomes satin.” - Maltbie Davenport Babcock “Dont ask for a light load, but rather ask for a strong back.” - Unknown“What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight - its the size of the fight in the dog.” - Dwight D. Roosevelt“Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson“Never give up. Never, never give up!” - Winston Churchill“If I had to select one quality, one personal characteristic that I regard as being most highly correlated with success, whatever the field, I would pick the trait of persistence. Determination. The will to endure to the end, to get knocked down seventy times and get up off the floor saying. “Here comes number seventy-one!” - Richard M. Devos “I do not think there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature.” - John D. Rockefeller“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” - Win
