The soccer ball might be Johns or Tonys.Its much too small for him.2. Ability Objects: (1) Train students listening skill.(2) Train students communicative competence using the target language.3. Pair workTeaching tools (教具)Recorder, computer and some items.Teaching steps (教学过程)Step I Greetings and free talk.Step 1a This activity introduces the key vocabulary.Point to the picture and ask, What items in the picture do you know? What items are new to you? Read the words. Explain the meanings of the words .belong to, author and picnic.Belong means to be owned by somebody.An author is a writer of a book or a play.A picnic is a meal eaten out of doors.Step Leading in Show the students a box full of different items, such as a pencil, a set of keys, a phone and so on. Ask a volunteer to come to the front. Tell the volunteer to close their eyes and choose one item from the box. Ask the volunteer “What do you think it is? Are you sure? Help the Ss to answer “ It must / could /might/cant be a/an.”Step Drill This activity provides oral practice using the target language. Show some pictures on the screen to help the students practice conversations. We can practice between the teacher and the student or between the students. Get different pairs of students to say their conversations to the class. Lead the students to have this consolidation: 肯定推测用must,意为一定,肯定; 否定推测用cant,意为不可能;把握不大用may, might或could,意为可能。Step 2bThis activity provides listening and writing practice using the target language.Call students attention to the chart. Point to the numbered list of sentences which contain a blank. Read the sentences to the class saying blank when coming to a write-on line. Say to the students that you are to hear the same recording again. This time please fill in the blanks in these sentences using the words must, might, could or cant. Point out the sample answer.Play the recording. Students listen and fill in the blanks.Check the answers.Step 2c This activity provides writing practice using vocabulary introduced in the unit. The students fill in the blanks by themselves, then check the answers and solve the problems if necessary.Step Grammar FocusAsk students to say the questions and answers in pairs. At the same time, write them on the blackboard.SA: Whose notebook is this? SB: It must be Nings. It has her name on it.SA: Whose French book is this? SB: It could be Alis. She studies French.SA: Whose guitar is this? SB: It might belong to Alice. She plays the guitar.SA: Whose T-shirt is this? SB: It cant be Johns. Its much too small for him.Step Homework 必做:1.
