Even if you know some freshmen (新生), you still feel nervous that you dont know any upperclassmen and teachers. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces? Most high schools hold a freshman orientation (迎新会) before school actually starts. These are helpful not only because you learn your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers, but also because you get to meet fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognize a few familiar faces. When you talk to people in the orientation, you will probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. Theyre all new to the school and dont know what to expect. Talking about a common concern with your classmates can help you develop friendships. The work in high school is something that freshmen are probably worried about. The work in high school builds on what you learned in middle school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that its a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help. High school also has more extracurricular activities (课外活动) than middle school did, such as clubs, music and theater groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things. Middle school taught you the basic of academics, time management (管理), and social skills while providing you with a little extra support and guidance. High school gives you the chance to learn how to be more independent and responsible. 21. According to the passage, when they come to the high school on the first day freshmen usually feel _. E-commerce refers to the process of buying or selling products or services over the Internet. Online shopping is becoming increasingly popular because of speed and ease of use for customers. E-business activities such as selling online can be directed at consumers or other businesses. Business to Consumer (B2C) involves the online sales of goods, services and provision of information directly to consumers. Business to Business (B2B) refers to the online exchange of products, services, or information between businesses. The value of online sales increased from $5.7 billion (2000) to $49.9 billion (2006) in Canada. The vast majority of online sales still occurred between firms as part of business-to-business (B2B) sales, as opposed to sales from a firm to an individual consumer. Sales from business to business amounted to $31.4 billion in 2006, which represented about 68% of total e-commerce by private firms. Why E-commerce for small business? Small businesses that are considering purchasing or selling online will find this a useful resource for help in identifying and selecting appropriate e-commerce options. Tips and strategies for attracting and keeping online customers are also presented. Selling online can help your business reach new markets and increase your sales. If you are interested in selling to other businesses, you can use the Internet to find sales leads, announce calls for a formal statement of the price you would charge for doing a job or providing goods or services, and offer products for sale ( either through your own website or through an E-marketplace site.)Searching for products and services online can save you time and money by allowing you to find the best prices without having to do all the legwork. You can use the Internet to find new supplies, post buying requests or search for products and services. The benefits of effective B2B e-commerce include lower costs associated with selecting suppliers, establishing prices, ordering and finishing the last part of a business deal or action. Online trading networks can also be used to support efficient information exchange between buyers and sellers.28. Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the text? _. A. Searching for products and services online can save you time without travelling around. B. E-business activities include Business to Consumers and Business to Business. C. The online sales occurring between firms were much more than those from firms to individual consumers in 2006 in Canada. D. Imagine telling someone that you meet today what youre going to do. Imagine their congratulations, and their high image of you. Doesnt it feel good to say it out loud? Dont you feel one step closer already, like its already becoming part of your identity? Well, bad news: you should have kept your mouth shut, because that good feeling now will make you less likely to do it. The repeated psychology tests have proven that telling someone your goal makes it less likely to happen. Ideally you would not be satisfied until youd actually done the work. But when you tell someone your goal and they acknowledge it, psychologists have found that its called a social reality. The mind is kind of tricked into feeling that its already done. And then because youve felt that satisfaction, youre less motivated to do the actual hard work necessary. Lets look at the proof. It goes like this: 163 people across four separate tests. Everyone wrote down their personal goal. Then half of them announced their commitment to this goal to the room, and half didnt. Then everyone was given 45 minutes of work that would directly lead them towards their goal, but they were told that they could stop at any time. Now, those who kept their mouths shut worked the entire 45 minutes on average, and when asked afterward, said that they felt that they had a long way to go still to achieve their goal. But those who had announced it quit after only 33 minutes, on average, and when asked afterward, said that they felt much closer to achieving their goal. So if this is true, what can we do? Well, you could resist the temptation to announce your goal. You can delay the gratification that the social acknowledgment brings, and you can understand that your mind mistakes the talking for the doing. But if you do need to talk about something, you can state it in a way that gives you no satisfaction, such as, I really want to run this marathon, so I need to train five times a week and kick my ass if I dont, okay? Next time youre tempted to tell someone your goal, what will you say?32. Which statement is not true according to the experiment?_ A. If they worked the entire 45 minutes they would fulfill their goal. B. Those who quit halfway felt much closer to achieving their goal. C. All those who had announced their goals worked 33 minutes. D. Those who kept their mouths shut felt there was a lot to be done. 33. What does the underlined word “gratification” possibly mean? _depression B. regret C. disappointment D. contentment 34. What can we infer from the passage? _A. Announcing your goal will weaken the driving force for success. B. People will have a low image of you if you announce your goal. C. Once you announce your goal, it will be well-received in society. D. Announcing your goal in advance invariably means failure. 35. Which is a suitable title for the passage? _A. Never be taken in by your goals B. Keep your goals to yourselfC. How to achieve your goals D. Motivate yourself by distinguishing your goals第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项, 选项中有两项为多余选项。You probably think of food poisoning as something that you might pick up at a greasy-spoon diner or an outdoor barbecue stand. 36 . The way you handle food in your own kitchen which, unlike a restaurant, doesnt have to conform to health regulations can just as easily make you sick. Here are some most overlooked food safety guidelines.Wash your hands properlyThis might seem like the most obvious food-safety practice. However, most people dont bother to do it. And the minority that does wash doesnt do it properly which might be even more dangerous, because they think theyre protecting themselves and their families, when they arent. 37 . 38 Chances are, youve probably taken a bite of something in the fridge thats just a teeny bit past the expiration date, in an effort to see if its safe to eat the rest of it. If its gone dangerously bad, it should taste extremely unpleasant, right? 39 . According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there is one type of bacteria which typically dont alter the taste, smell or appearance of food. Wash fruit and veggies, even if youre going to peel them 40 . The problem is that when you cut away the unwashed skin and then use the same knife to cut up whats underneath, you actually may be spreading bacteria from the outside to the previously pristine inside. In fact, you can contaminate the veggies further if your salad bowl or sink is not clean. Not necessarily.Absolutely not.Dont taste food to see if its good. However you wash your hands, at least wash them. Why wash them when you are not going to eat the skin?
