Grade 8 Unit 8 ReadingDo you remember what you were doing?桃源中学 周盈盈I. Teaching objectives:1.KnowledgeObjectivesBy the end of the class, students will be able to master:(1)New words and phrases: take down, terrorist, shocked, completely, .tower, in silence(2) Consolidate the past continuous tense2. Ability Objectives: After the class, students will improve their abilities of reading comprehension and writing.3.Emotional objectives:In the class, students will get some knowledge about Dr. Martin Luther King and “911” event. Then they will know the importance of peace, love and help.Teaching Focuses:This class, students will master the new words and phrases, and improve theirabilitiesofreadingcomprehension and writing.III. Teaching Difficulties:I think students may find it a little difficult to find out the deep meaning of this passage that the writer wants to tell us. Besides, it may be also hard for some students to write an important event they remember.To break through the difficulties, during the class, I will help students to analyze the passage step by step. If necessary, I will give them some hints. And before writing, I will let students discuss the writing content and lead them to write three paragraphs. Teaching Procedures:Step 1 GreetingIntroduce myself to the students and greet them.(设计意图:让学生简单地了解自己,并与他们亲切问候,可以拉近师生之间的距离)Step 2 Lead-in Students watch a video about “911” event. Lead students to say out the name of “World Trade Center”. Then I will introduce some more information about these two towers and the terrible event. Meanwhile, I will show some new words and phrase, like take down, terrorist and shocked. (设计意图:“911” 视频与本课所讲的内容一致,并且能充分激起学生的兴趣,让他们在最短的时间内把注意力集中在课堂上。同时,借助这个视频,我将会导出本堂课的几个重点单词和词组。)Step3 Fast Reading Here are two activities. 1. Students read the passage quickly and choose two pictures it refers to. In this activity, I will give students some information of Martin Luther King.2. Students have to divide the passage into two parts according to these two pictures they choose before.(设计意图:这个环节意在让学生快速阅读找出本文的主旨大意,并且做好分段任务)Step 4 While Reading Event 1, I design two activities. 1. Scan Part 1 and finish the chart below.Part 1EventDateGeneral meaningHere, Ill show students the reading strategy to find the general meaning.2. Read this part more carefully and answer the following questions.(1). Where was Dr. Martin Luther King killed?(2). What was Robert Allen doing at that time?(3). How did Robert know the news?(4). How did Roberts parents feel when they heard the news?Now lets move to Part 2, also two activities.1. Scan Part 1 and finish the chart below.Part 2EventDateGeneral meaning 2. Read this part more carefully and answer the following questions.(1). Where did “911” happen?(2). What was Kate doing when the World Trade Center was taken down?(3). How did Kate Smith feel about this event?(设计意图:这个环节能让学生更加仔细深入地了解本文所提到的两个重大事件)Step 5 Post-readingStudents read the whole passage again, and finish the true or false question. (设计意图:在分别剖析完两个事件后,学生重新回到全文,完成题目。这个环节可以让学生把之前的信息输入整体化。)Step 6 Discuss Students discuss what the writer wants to tell us through this passage.(设计意图:此环节可以促进学生积极动脑,加深对本文的理解,同时,本题的讨论结果还可以帮助学生传递正能量。)Step 7 Recall the passage and fill in the blanks I will adapt this passage. Each event three paragraphs. After finishing the blanks, students have to tell me what each paragraph writes about on the basis of Event 2.(设计意图:这个环节,我将文章进行改编。每个事件分别按教材中3b的写作要求分成3小段。首先学生填空复述两个事件,并且注意新的语言点的复习和过去进行时用法的回顾。接着,以第二事件为例,引导学生说出每小段所写的内容。这样,可以帮助学生更好地完成写作任务。)Step 8 Before writingGroupwork Students discuss the disappearance of Malaysia plane.What was the eventWhen did it happenWhere did it happenWhat were you doingWhat were your friends doingWhy was it importantWhy do you remember this event(设计意图:这个环节,学生相互讨论,分享信息,为下面的写作做好铺垫)Step9 While writing Students should write the article into three paragraphs. In Paragraph1, students should write about the event and when and where it happened. In Paragraph 2, students should write about what they and their friends were doing when the event happened. In Paragraph 3, students should write about their feelings and why they remember this event.Step 10 Show the lettersStudents
