Play a funny video of two Chinese boys not willing to show a foreigner the wayWords1. Presentation1) Show a map of a district in Xiangyang2) Following the route of a boy, lead Ss to read and spell the new words of places in the neighborhood3) In present each word, elicit Ss to say a full sentence “There is a near here”2. PracticeSs read and memorize the words and then finish the exercise in the book on Page 43, 1a.3. Production1) A guessing game: first, let Ss guess the original words from the simple signs though imagination, then invite two Ss to stick the pictures onto the words on blackboard2) Ss try to spell the words and read the words togetherSentences1. Presentation and practice1) Lead in a situation: Tom is Marys new classmate, and he is new in town. He is hungry, so he wants to find a restaurant, and what will they say. Before the conversations, guide Ss to look at the map and get familiar with the streets.2) Ask one Ss to play the role of Tom and ask about the restaurant, and the teacher the role of Mary and answers him.3) Similarly, another student ask about the police station, and the teacher answers4) In this time, choose two Ss to play the role of Tom and Mary and they ask and answer, and they change other two Ss5) Ask a line of Ss to ask and answer places in turn6) The whole class practice the conversations2. Listening practice1) Listen and circle the places you hear in 1a2) Check the answers3. Presentation of prepositional phrases showing the directions1) Let Ss try to find out where the pay phone is.2) Ask Ss to stand in the corresponding position to help Ss understand.3) Do the match exercise to help them review4. Practice of the positional phrases1) Activity: Listen to the order. First, the teacher gives the orders and the ordered Ss should stand up2) After Ss have been familiar with the game, choose one student to give his orders5. Listening practice1) Listen and fill in the blanks with the words in the box.2) The whole class read the words together.6. Production1) Show the map of Xiangyang again, and first give directions on how to help Tom to find a place in this map2) Ss are given 3 minutes to practice the conversation with their partners.3) Ask four pairs to perform their conversations.4) Give praise to SsProgress1.
