Unit 4Why dont you talk to your parents?SectionA (1a-2c)说课稿太和县北城中学教育集团 庄静2017.4.30. Analysis of teaching material This topic is taken from the second book of Grade 8 (Go For it), and it is the first period of Unit4. So it is a speaking and listening class. This unit aims at helping students talk about the problems in their studies and daily lives, and to ask for advice from others and also give advice to others. To fulfill the tasks in this unit, students have to practice the topic sentences in pairs and groups. This gives them an excellent opportunity to practice speaking English. So students abilities of listening、speaking will be improved a lot by all kinds of activities.Analysis of studentsMy students have already known the usage of “should”. Most of them have the ability to offer simple advice with the word should. As far as I know, they are energetic 、active、curious and eager to get knowledge. And also, they are always willing to help others. However, they are afraid of making mistakes, so in my teaching process, I will try my best to encourage them to cooperate with others and encourage them to speak as much as possible.III. Teaching objectives: 1. Knowledge and ability objectives:1)Talk about the problems and ask for advice.2)Give reasonable advice according to these problems.2. Moral objectives:Develop students senses of cooperation, encourage them to express their thoughts and use the right ways to deal with problems bravely.Teaching important and difficult points:1. Teaching important points:1) Talk about the problems. 2) Learn the new words, phrases and language points. 2. Teaching difficult points:Give reasonable advice according to these problems. Master the expressions of solving problemsV. Teaching and learning methods:1.Task-based language teaching method2. The communicative teaching methodAs we all know, the main aims of learning English in Middle school are to cultivate the students abilities of listening, speaking , reading, and writing. In order to attract students interests, I use Task-based language teaching method. First show them a picture and two sentences to warm up the problem that are very common in their studies. And then show another two pictures to lead in todays topic .Then I use the communicative teaching method. I give them all kinds of tasks such as filling in the blanks, pair work, a guessing game and group work .This kind of teaching method can develop the students ability of using the language. .Teaching Aids:Multimedia computer,pictures and blackboard.Students in Grade 8 are very interested in the classed with the help of Multimedia computers and pictures, so for the period, I will make good use of these teaching tools to try to make my class perfect and interesting.VII. Teaching procedures:Step 1 Warming up1. Show a picture of a boy and two questions on the blackboard.T: Whats the matter/ Whats wrong with this boy? S: He has too much homework to do. T: Do he like to do it?S1:No, he doesnt. Because he doesnt have any free time to do things he likes. Step 2 Leading-in1. Look at these problems. Do you think they are serious or not? Ss discuss with their partners and give some advice. I have to study too much so I dont get enough sleep. I have too much homework so I dont have any free time to do things I like. My parents dont allow me to hang out with my friends. I have too many after-school classes. I got into a fight with my best friend.2. Students practice the language structure and sentence patterns according to these pictures and problems. Step 3 Practice (A guessing game)Teacher show half of these pictures and find some Ss to guess what these problems are, then find some other Ss to help him or her to solve the problems by using “Why dont you./ Why not.” Step 4 Pair work 1. Let Ss read the conversation in the box. 2. Use the information in 1a to make other conversations. 3. Let some pairs act out their conversations. e.g. A: Whats wrong? B: Im really tied because I studied until midnight last night. A: Why dont you go to sleep earlier this evening? 4. Language points 1) allow v. 允许;准许allow sb. (not)to do sth. (不)允许某人做某事2) wrong adj. 错误的;不对的 = not rightStep 5 Listening Work on 1b:1. T: Tell Ss to read the sentences in 1a again. Make sure they know the meaning of the sentences. 2. Play the recording for the Ss to listen and circle the problems you hear in 1a. 3. Play the recording again. Check the answers with the Ss. Work on 2a: T: Peter has some problems. What advice does his friend give him? Fill in the blanks with could or should. 1. Let Ss read the sentences in 2a. 2. Play the recording for the Ss to listen and write the words in the blank. 3. Play the recording again to check the answers. Work on 2b: 1. Let Ss read the sentences below. Explain some main sentences for the Ss. Make sure they know the meaning of each sentence. 2. Play the recording for the Ss to write the letters (a-e) next to the advice in 2a. 3. Play the recording again to check the answers. Answers: 1. d 2. e 3. a 4. c 5. b Step 6 Group work Here are some problems. Lets see which group can give us the most advice.1: I cant get good grades.2: I am not strong.3: I want a computer. But my parents dont buy it for me.4: I am not good at math.5: I dont have enough money.6: I got into a fight with my best friends.A: I have a problem. I .Could you help me?B: You could/shouldC: Why dont you?Step 7 Summary and homework SummaryFind 2 Ss to sum up what they have learnt in this class.
