Look at the picture on Page 38. Do you know who the man is? What happened to the buildings? Who can say something about them?The man was Dr. Martin Luther King. He was a great leader of the black people in modern American history. He is a kind and helpful man. He did a lot of good things for the people of America. He was murdered by terrorists. His famous speech was “I have a dream”.The second picture is 9.11 event. American World Trade Center was destroyed by terrorists on September 11,2001.Now have a look at the title of the passage. Can you guess what the passage is about?Step 2 ReadingSkim reading.Ask the students to read the title and first sentences of each paragraph and quickly, and try to answer the two questions:(1) What was Robert Allen doing when Dr. King was killed?(2) Which day will Kate Smith never forget?Fast reading.Read the passage quickly, and try to answer the two questions:(1) What are the two events in the passage?(2) When did happen?Check the students answers.New words.Show the Chinese meanings and phonetic symbols of the new word on the PPT.
