To develop students spirit of helping one another in trouble.Teaching difficult points: To improve the reading skills and oral English.Teaching procedure:Step 1.Lead-in1. Present some pictures about a storm and ask students some questions about the pictures,like what color is the cloud/sky? Can we go out at this time? Is the wind heavy? Students can get a general idea about a storm.2. Talk about what you will do if there is a storm and what we can prepare for a storm.Students can give their answers by looking at the pictures in the ppt.3. Ask the students to read the title of 3a and speak out the meaning.Step 2.Reading1. Read the passage in 3a silently as quickly as you can and sign each paragraph with 1,2,3.then find out where the storm happened.Check the answers together.2. Read the paragraphs one by one,and finish related tasks.(1) Read paragraph one and answer questions:What was the weather like before the heavy rain started?How could Bens family know the storm would come?(2) Read paragraph two .Find the sentences in Past Progressive Tense(was/were+Ving). The answer is-Bens dad was putting pieces of wood over the windows while his mom was making sure the flashlights and radio were working. Then ask one student to translate them.(3) Read paragraph three and finish True or False .It rained hard outside.Bens family had fun playing a card game.(4) Read paragraph four and answer two questions:When did Ben fall asleep?What was the neighborhood like after the storm?Then ask students to underline some key phrases.Step 3.Discussion1. If you were Bens neighborhood, what could you do after the storm ? How could you help them?Students can look at the pictures in the ppt to help the discussion.2. “Although the storm broke many things apart, it brought families and neighbors closer together.” What other things can bring people closer together? How can we help each other in times of difficulty?Students discuss the following difficulties in pair and then ask several students to present their answers.In times of difficulty ill and unhealthystudying problemstraffic accident argue with
