Lesson Plan of What does he look like?Section A Period 1重庆育才中学 代雨汐1. Guiding Ideology This is a Listening and Speaking period based on the principles of Communicative Language Teaching and Tasked-based Language Teaching. CLT views language as a vehicle for communication and requires activities that involve real communication promote learning. Accordingly, activities in this period includes question and answers between teacher and students, conversation between students and students, pair-work, guessing game, and oral presentation. TBLT is an implement of CLT in a real class to some extent. Thus, activities in this period are designed and carried out as multiple tasks replicating real-world tasks. They include asking about peoples appearance, matching people and their features, guessing a certain person, and describing a friends look. In addition, information technology is applied in this period to arouse students interests and make teaching more efficient. 2. Analysis of Teaching Material:l The text is Section A Period 1, Unit 9, Grade 7, Go For It, published by Peoples Education Press-What does he look like? It aims to boost students basic interpersonal communication skills through developing students strong oral skills.l Page One shows new vocabulary about peoples looks. Target sentence “What does he look like?” and sentences to answer it are also presented here. Page Two embraces tasks like pair-work and listening comprehension. 3. Analysis of Students:l The students are from Class 14, Junior Grade 7. There are 54 students in total.l After a year of English learning in Grade 7, students have acquired the basic four skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing. They can understand and follow the teachers instructions well. Theyd like to warmly participate in the classroom activities and they are interested in animation movies. 4. Teaching Objectives:l Objectives of Knowledge: Vocabulary: short, curly, straight, tall, medium, height, of medium height, thin, heavy, build, of medium build. Sentence patterns: -What does she/he look like? -She/he is really tall, and she/he has straight hair. -Is he short or tall? -He isnt tall or short. He is of medium height. l Objectives of Skills: Students are able to talk about peoples looks.l Objectives of Emotions and Attitude: Students should choose appropriate vocabulary when talking about peoples looks. Students should not judge people by their appearance. Students should keep in mind that although people look different, they can still be friends and love each other. 5. Teaching focus and difficulties: Teaching focus: new vocabulary and sentence patterns. Teaching difficulties: pronunciation of some new words. Difference between He is. and He has6. Teaching tools:PowerPoint, blackboard, chalks, handout sheets. 7. Teaching Procedures:l Step 1. Warming up. Teacher and students greet each otherl Step 2. Leading in. Students watch a video of Zootopia and get familiar with Judy and her friends.l Step 3. Presentation. Students watch the pictures of Judys friends and learn new vocabulary of appearance. Students learn new sentence patterns and use them to answer the teachers question. l Step 4. Practicing. Students listen to the conversations and play a Bingo Game to practice listening skills. Students listen to the conversations again to find out Judys two friends. Students do pair work to practice oral skillsl Step 5. Consolidation Students use new vocabulary and sentence patterns by playing a Guessing Game. Students use target language by writing about their favorite friends and reading aloud to the peers l Step 6. Conclusion and moral education Students chant
