Warming up and Lead in 1. Greetings.Greet the students with a happy smile.Greet the teacher.This activity is designed to get the attention from students and get them ready for class.2. Warming-up questions.Ask questions about the number of students in the class, the age and the time span of the class. Write the numbers on the blackboard.T: How many students do we have in our class? How old are you? How long is one class in our school?Answer the questions with numbers.This activity is designed to get close to the students and help them feel the function of the numbers:describe and remember the facts3. Lead-inInvite students to the topic of today. T: As we can see, numbers can help us describe and remember the facts in our life. Lets look at some big numbers. Read them in English and think about the facts they are describing (1,025; 6671; 8,844.43; 9,600,000).Students try to read the numbers in English and think about the related facts they know about the numbers.This activity is designed to practice the pronunciation of the big numbers about geographical facts and lead in to the four natural places in the book. Step II. 1a&1bFour important geographical facts in the world.1. A video of four natural placesPlay a video about the four natural places and ask students to find out the English names of the places and think about the relations between the places and the numbers. (Qomolangma; the Sahara; the Nile; the Caspian Sea)Students try to know what the four places are in English and activate their learned information about the places and numbers with the help of vivid video. This activity aims to bridge the gap between English and Chinese names of the four places and pool the learned, numbers-related or other more information out of students.2. Brainstorming about the four places.Ask students to describe the facts of the four natural places with the help of numbers above and the adjectives.T: What can you see in the video?Qomolangma the Sahara the Nilethe Caspian SeaWhich number can be used to describe Qomolangma/the Sahara /the Nile/the Caspian Sea? Can you say more about them?e.g. Qomolangma is 8,844,43 meters high. It is the highest mountain in the world. Students try to describe the four places with the help of numbers, adjectives and other more information they learned before. Familiarize students with the sentence patterns about measurements, comparatives and superlatives on talking about geographical facts. Step III 2aGeographical facts about China.1. Before listening.Lead in from the geographical facts in the world to the predications about geographical and historical facts in China. T: Its international for us to know some important geographical facts in the world. However, its proud to know and introduce our dear motherland to people all over the world. Turn to page 50. What are the key words in each fact about China?
