Language knowledgeBy the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to1) Pronounce, recognize and use the words and expressions like “tonight, a little, may, cinema, glasses, later, handsome, actor, actress, and person”.2) Ask classmates about other persons appearance: What does he/she look like? Is he/she or? Does he/ she or?2. Talk about other persons appearance, classify when to use “have/has” and when to use “be”: She/He is She/He has3. Language skillsDuring the lesson, Ss will be able to 1) Use the target language in natural speech and conversations.2) Use the target language to make conversations of their own.3. Learning strategiesDuring the lesson, Ss will be able to1) Choose different learning methods such as individual learning and cooperative learning. 2) Practice using different input methods such as listening and reading to find the specific information.4. Affect 1) Make them feel confident about their appearances.2) Know what to do when Ss can not be on time. l Teaching main points & Anticipated difficulties1. Teaching main points1) Ss can ask classmates what other persons look like: What does he/she look like? Is he/she or? Does he/ she or? 2) Ss can talk about other persons appearance, classify when to use “have/has” and when to use “be”: She/He is She/He has3) Ss can use the target language to make conversations of their own4) Ss can identify their familiar persons by the description of their appearance.2. Anticipated difficulties1) Ss may have difficulty in classify when to use “have has” and “be” when describing others.2) Ss may find it a little hard to make a conversation with the target language fluently in limited time.l Teaching methods & Learning condition1. Teaching methods Task-based teaching methods,scenario teaching methods and three-stage teaching methods2. Learning condition Ss of grade7 have accumulated some English knowledge and skills, they can understand the conversation of the familiar topics and make conversations and descriptions about the familiar and daily topics. Besides, they are interested in movies and stars, and they care a lot about their appearance. So the topic is close to their life. l Teaching aidsMulti-media devices; PPT document; paper; Blackboard; Chalk l Teaching procedureLead-in (7min)【Activity1: Guessing】T is the first time to meet the Ss, so T will give the Ss a warm greeting and briefly introduce herself. Then T will tell Ss her hobby is to watching movies, which is the topic of the lesson. 【Activity2: Guessing】T: Im so happy that tomorrow is Saturday that I can have time to see the new movie. Do you know what movie I will see?Ss may have different opinions.T: Lets first guess who the main actor and actress are. And then you will know the movie. So who is the actor? Here are two tips, and you can also ask me questions about his appearance like “Is he tall or short?” “Does he have big eyes?”Ss ask questions, and guess. Then talk about the actress. T: Yeah, you are so clever! Now, do you know what movie I will see? Yes, its “Book of Love”.Intention: A warm greeting can ease the nervous atmosphere in the opening class. A brief introduction can close the distance between T and Ss.Talking about the topic of movies which is familiar to Ss can also close the distance, and the guessing game about the actor and actress can help Ss to review what they learnt in period, and it can also help them to prepare for this lesson. In addition, it can also lead to the topic line of the lesson.Presentation (20min)【Activity 1: Listening 2d】T will set a scene that some students are going to the cinema, too. And they are talking about something, then lead Ss to listen to the conversation and then answer three questions about the conversation.Questions: 1) How many students are going to the cinema?2) Who is Mikes friend?3) What does Mikes friend look like?【Activity 2: Reading 2d】For Ss may not know the answer to the last question, T will lead them to read. And also there are five questions.T: Its not easy to answer, right? Dont worry, lets read the conversation, and when reading, please underline the information of these five questions.Questions:1) When and where are they meeting?2) Can Mike meet Tony on time?3) Does Tony know David?4) Why does Tony want to know what David looks like?5) What does David look like?【Activity 3: Describing David】Ss will be asked to give the answer to Q5, and then T will ask them to choose from three pictures to find David according to the answer. After that, T will further ask about how Mike describe David, and how to further describe Davids appearance. Then Ss will know that we can describe a person from his/her hair, face, glasses, height and build. When to use “have/has” and “be” will also be presented here.【Activity 4: Imitation and Role-play】Ss will be asked to read after the tape and T will lead them to focus on the intonation. Then Ss will practice the conversation with their partners. At last, T will invite some pairs to give shows.Intention: Activity 1 and Activity 2 are used to practice the input abilities of Ss, Ss can get information by both listening and reading. From Activity 3, Ss can know how to find the target according to the description and how to describe persons from different aspects. Activity 4 can help Ss to practice their oral English.Practice (13min)【Activity 1: 3a Describing】Ss will be given a picture of Jia Ling and Qu Ying, and they will be asked to use the given words and phrases to describe them. And when Ss answering, T will give other questions like “Is Qu ying tall or short?” or “Does Jia Ling have long or short hair?”.
