Teaching DesignGo for it! 八(下) Unit5 What were you doing when the rainstorm came?Section B 2a-2e(Reading) 一、Analysis of the teaching material The topic of this unit is to about events students are interested in and familiar with. In this unit students will learn to talk about past events and tell a story .Such topic is interesting, so it is helpful to raise the learning interests of students. This lesson is about two events in American history . Martin Luther King is a famous person and the World Trade Center is a famous building in the world. My students must want to learn about something else about them more. 二、Analysis of the studentsSo far, my students have learned English for a few years, so they have the ability of reading . Besides, they must be interested in the two important events . I believe they will like my class and they can learn some reading skills in class. But maybe a few students are so shy that they darent express themselves. For them , I must encourage them to open their mouths to speak English .I believe I can!三、Teaching aims1. Knowledge goals (1)New words: passage, pupil, completely, silence, in silence, recently, date, tower, at first, realize, truth(2)Learn how to read the reading material.2. Ability goals:(1)Train Ss three reading skills(Skimming, Scanning and Careful reading).(2)Train Ss speaking skills(After reading).3. Introduce the reading skill of skimming by PPT.(1)Look through the passage quickly to catch the main idea without reading every word. Read the passage and answer the question alone and quietly. Q:What are the two events in the passage? 4. Check the answer with students.Answer:1) Dr. Martin Luther King was killed.2) The World Trade Center in New York was taken down by terrorists. 1. Introduce the reading skill of skimming by PPT.Move your eyes quickly down the passage to find information you need. If you read the words you dont know, dont worry and try to guess the meanings in the passage.2.Read the passage again. Are the following statements true (T) or false (F)? _ (1) Everyone in American remembers who killed Dr. King._(2) Robert Allen was eating lunch when Dr. King was killed. _(3) Roberts parents were shocked to hear the news. _(4) Kate Smith was watching a movie when a plane hit the World Trade Center. _ (5) Kate didnt think her friend was telling the truth about the event. First, ask them finish the questions alone. Then discuss them in their group. When Ss finish the questions, ask them to underline the answers in the passage.2.
