The comparison between Teachers College, Columbia University and Beijing Normal UniversityNowadays, many people realize that Chinese graduates and American graduates have many differences, and many of them consider that Chinese graduates innovation abilities are weaker than Americans. But why? So I would like to compareTeachers College, Columbia University and Beijing Normal University, both of them are normal schools.Teachers College, Columbia Universityis thegraduateschool of educationofColumbia University, located inNew York City,New York,United States. It is the largest and most comprehensive graduate school of education in the United States, and also ranks the best. And Beijing Normal University is a public research university located inBeijingwith strong emphasis on basic disciplines of humanities and sciences. It is one of the oldest universities in China. The similarities of them are as follow: They are all teaching school, focusing on the education majors. Firstly, Teachers College had begun to offer courses in anthropology as part of the foundations of education. Today, according to its president,Teachers College, Columbia University provides solutions to the difficult problems ofurban education, reaffirming its original mission in providing a new kind of education for those left most in need by society or circumstance. The college continues its research with urban and suburban school systems that strengthen teaching in fundamental areas .It also prepares leaders to develop and administer psychological and health care programs in schools, hospitals and community agencies and advancestechnologyfor the classroom, developing new teaching software and keeping teachers with new developments. Secondly, students in Beijing Normal University played a significant role in patriotic and democratic movements, particularly in theMay Fourth Movementin 1919 and theTiananmen Square protests of 1989. In a New York Timesarticle, it was described as one of the most progressive institutions in China. The university also lays distinct emphasis on educational equality. Both two university has the development in teaching. So far as their differences are as follow: First are academic departments, Teachers College, Columbia University has ten departments that comprise more than 60 major academic programs. Roughly 30 percent of students are concentrated in teacher education programs. Affiliated with Columbia University, and standing on the border of northern Manhattan, the College continues to work toward social change for the better by focusing on education in and out of the classroom and across the human lifespan. Through its main emphases - health, education, leadership and psychology - TC prepares educators, psychologists, policy makers and planners for the challenges they will face in their careers. And as for Beijing Normal University has altogether 55 undergraduate degree programs, 162 master programs, and 100 doctoral programs. 16 of them are honored as national key disciplines, including 5 general disciplines and 11 specialized disciplines, and are recognized as among the top ranked in China. Secondly, as the class culture, Beijing Normal University and universities educational philosophy and the United States also have obvious difference. Beijing Normal University to teach book knowledge is given priority to, and Teachers College, Columbia University is training person of ability, innovative and impart knowledge to two or more things is three. On the method of teaching, Chinese teaching is a professor in the classroom, students listen and take notes. But most of the teachers in the Teachers College, Columbia University are professor knowledge, while students and learn from each other. After comparing with two universities, I can clearly see that the most difference is the class culture of them. Many professors in China, few dare to tell myself dont understand the problem, because he is likely to be students. Many students said that the teacher how to dont understand myself, and so on how to speak on the platform? But in the United States, we often can see the students and teachers to discuss problems, the teacher might say, the question the teacher also dont know the answer, but if by himself to answer, how to simplify and find out how to reasonable approach. In this way, students and teachers to discuss, study, it is also the students abilities to solve the practical problems which are stronger than Chinese students. So it may be one of the reasons why Chinese graduates innovation abilities are weaker than Americans.References:ZNet1.
