This lesson is closely related to students daily lives. In this unit, we will talk about pandas. Its quite easy to arouse students interests in communicating In the process of learning, students are encouraged to describe pandas living habit. Students are expected to learn the key words and target language learnt in the unit and to improve their listening and speaking ability. Analysis of the students:Students in Grade8 are interested in funny and cute things. So they must be interested in the topic of this unit. And they are more knowledgeable. They are looking forward to expressing things around them more in English.Whats more, they have a strong will to help others with the help of their English. So as an English teacher , I should provide more chances for students to practice English in the real life and teach them some uesful studying methods to help them to be successful language learners. But it is difficult for them to remember all the superlative forms of the adjectives and adverbs. I should provide more exercises.Teaching aims:Knowledge Objectives: 1) Students can read and use new words and phrases: storm, report, area, wind, light, wood, window, flashlight, match, beat, heavily, against, asleep, fall asleep, die down, rise, apart.2) Students will be able to ask and answer the questions like: What was the neighborhood like after the storm? What were people doing when the rainstorm came? 3) Students can understand how to use “when” and “while”.Ability Objectives: 1)To develop students abilities of reading and speaking.2)To train students ability of working in groups.3)To cultivate students ability of telling a story.Moral Objectives: 1) Arouse their interest and confidence in learning English.2) Lead students to know the importance of environmental protection.Type of lesson: A new lesson Class period: 45minutesImportant points: phrases: in size, in the world, 2 meters tall/long/wide, the biggest population, one of the biggest, the most popular question, talk about, the ancient emperors, the main reason, as far as I know, no man-made objects, mountain climbing, the southwestern part of China, thick clouds, cover the top, risk ones life, challenge oneself, achieve ones dream,the forest of nature, try to do sth., the spirit of the climbers, many times more than ,live up to, prepare for., be awake, be special to sb., spend some time doing sth., in the remaining forest, Difficult points: Students can use “when” and “while” correctly .They can compare two things.Learning methods:a) Ss are encouraged to speak freely. b) Ss are leaded to use the target language correctly.c) Ss are Ss are guided to learn some knowledge about how to pretect the environment.Teaching Procedures:Teaching ProceduresWhat T does in classWhat Ss do in class(Ts expectation) Purpose of the designStep 1. Greetings and lead in:Greeting and watch a video as a warming up.1. Greet the Ss .2. -Do you know “national treasures”?-A “national treasure” is something that is important to a countrys history or culture.They answer Ts questions by watching the video carefully.Students can focus on the new lesson quickly by watching video. And the question is about the topic of this unit, students will get into the situation quickly.Step 2. 1. Pre-readingTalk about panda in your class. The Ss will say these words.big, bamboo, zoo, popular, cute, black and white,Sichuan, famous, endangered, beautiful, forest, protect,Step 3. Reading1. kimming: Students look through the passage quickly and try to find out what these numbers mean: 10, 12, 200, 20002)Students scan the article again and write short answers to the questions. 1. What is Lin Weis job? 2. What do the baby pandas eat for breakfast? 3. What do adult pandas eat? 4. Why are pandas endangered? 5. What is one way of saving pandas? 4. Post-readingStudents read the passage again and retell the story with the given words and phrases.The teacher show students some pictures and ask them say some words about pandas.Ask them one by one and write these words on the blackboard. The teacher ask the Ss to look through the passage quickly and get some information from it.The teacher ask the Ss to read the passage carefully to get some details about the story.The teacher provide some phrases to help the Ss retell the story.Key: 1. A panda keeper. 2. Milk. 3. Bamboos. 4. Less forest for pandas to live. 5.Teaching children.The students will say these words: big, bamboo, zoo, popular, cute, black and white,Sichuan, famous, endangered, beautiful, forest, protect,they are expected to fill in the blanks with the right words.They are expected to read the passage carefully and get some details.They are encouraged to retell the story with the given words and phrases.Its designed to let the students think about some new words that will appear in the passage by themselves.Its designed to arouse students their interests of using the sentence structures, students can write down the words which related to their real life.Its designed to help students get the main idea of the passage.Its designed to open up the students mind to get ready to learn the passage in 3a.Its designed to help Student practice retelling a stroy to grasp the basic information of a story. When, Where, Who and What. In this way, students ability of speaking and writing will improve a lot. Step 4. Moral education1. Discuss what other ways you think children can help to save the pandas.Encourage students to talk about their feeling after reading it. Telling Ss that helping animals is helping ourselves.They are expected to express their feelings and the importance of saving animals.Moral education is very necessary in this lesson.Through reading,students should know a lot about protecting animals.Step 5:SummaryLittle teacher timeAsk Ss to do a short summary.ask some students
