任务型阅读专项练习1In all ones lifetime it is oneself that one spends the most time being with or dealing with. But it is precisely oneself that one has the least understanding of. When you are going upwards in life you tend to overestimate yourself. It seems that everything you seek for is within your reach; luck and opportunities will come your way and you are overjoyed that they constitute(组成) part of your worth. When you are going downhill you tend to underestimate yourself, mistaking difficulties ancl adversities for your own incompetence. Its likely that you think it wise for yourself to know your place and stay aloof from(远离) worldly wearing a mask of cowardice(怯懦), behind which the flow of sap in your life will be retarded. To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to gain a correct view of oneself and be a sober(冷静的) realistaware of both ones strength and shortage. You may look forward hopefully to the future but be sure not to expect too much, for ideals can never be fully realized. You may be courageous to meet challenges but it should be clear to you where to direct your efforts. Thats to say so long as you have a perfect knowledge of yourself there wont be difficulties you cant overcome, nor obstacles you cant surmount. To get a thorough understanding of oneself needs selfappreciation. Whether you like yourself to be a towering tree or a blade of grass, whether you think you are a high mountain or a small stone, you represent a state of nature. If you earnestly admire yourself youll have a real sense of selfappreciation, which will give you confidence. As soon as you gain full confidence in yourself youll be enabled to fight and overcome any adversity(逆境)To get a thorough understanding of oneself also requires doing oneself a favor when its needed. In time of anger, do yourself a favor by giving vent to it in a quiet place so that you wont be hurt by its flames; in time of sadness, do yourself a favor by sharing it with your friends so as to change a gloomy mood into a cheerful one; in time of tiredness, do yourself a favor by getting a good sleep or taking some tonic. Show yourself loving concern about your health and daily life. As you are aware, what a person physically has is but a human body thats vulnerable when exposed to the elements. So if you fall ill, its up to you to take a good care of yourself. Unless you know perfectly well when and how to do yourself a favor, you wont be confident and ready enough to resist the attack of illness. To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to get a full control of ones life. Then one will find ones life full of color and flavor.ProblemUnable to (71)_ oneself fullySymptomsWhen going upwardsFeeling everything is under (72)_Feeling being (73)_ with all opportunitiesWhen going (74)_Feeling the lack of (75)_(76)_ to the problemViewing oneself correctly and being (77)_Having (78)_ to gain confidenceDoing oneself a favor(79)_Controlling ones life fully and enjoying a (80)_ and flavored life2Office Fitness, OK!Last week was Exercise at Work Week. While some people may ignore it, I, on the other hand, observed this most important of weeks and found it so inspiring that every week from now on will be an exercise at work week for me.I strongly support being less sedentary(久坐的). Sitting at my desk all day long staring at a computer screen makes me feel worse in body and mind than any other activity I can think of. It makes my back hurt and puts me in the same sort of frustrated and grumpy mood my sons are in when they have disobeyed my orders and managed to play computer games all day.The gym is not the answer to spend eight or 10 hours hunched over one machine in artificial light followed by an hour sweating on other machines still in artificial light makes no sense at all.Exercise only appeals to me when I can do it while doing something else. So if I can exercise a bit during those seeming endless hours in the office, so much the better. To start I ordered “Office Athletics”, a pamphlet from Avery. It has many handy hints, including leg lifts while photocopying. It suggests tightening the thighs(大腿) by squeezing rubbish bins between the legs, or taking off your shoes and exercising ankles by rolling your feet. I shall not be doing any of these, and I hope you wont be either. I have no desire to watch workmates stretching their feet in their socks or squeezing(向内收紧,挤) bins between their legs. Showy exercising in a place of work is ugly, undignified and should not be tolerated. But there are many other tips that can be followed with more properness. The book suggests buttock clenches up to 20 times a day when sitting down. Fiddling is also recommended and if you do it wholeheartedly enough it burns 500 calories a day. This is good news for me as when my hands are not on to the keyboard, one is twiddling(玩弄,旋转) with my hair. I used to be ashamed of this childish habit but now I can hold my head up and twiddle with impunity.A better tip still is to see colleagues rather than e-mailing them, which is clearly a good idea for you, although they may not welcome the interruption. Better, though, is my strategy of drinking enormous quantities of fluid all day. I alternate tea, Diet Coke and water, each of which requires a trip down the corridor. And when you have a lot of liquid, you need to go to the washroom often a lot. So to add to the rich variety of the day I sometimes go to the local one, and sometimes go further afield, visiting other washrooms around the building. Each time I get up, I meet people and usually run into someone it is nice to talk to.Office Fitness, OK!While some people ignore it, Im in 71._ of the idea of Exercise at Work Week. These are people who have been disabled due to some major sickness or some other problems. In order to help them carry on their work in the normal way, disability aids are manufactured. This helps them make their life a lot easier than what it would have been without these aids. The kind of disability aids that an individual might require depends on the person only. It is the problem that a person faces that decides the aids that he/she will use for carrying out their respective jobs. The following is the list of a few disability aids that come of significant use.The first and foremost aid is the stocking aid, aiding the individuals suffering from the problem of bending down to reach the foot and wear their own socks. These stocking aids have a gutter that is made up of plastic material. These gutters are shaped in a certain way along with the attachment of cotton tapes in it. The sock is then put over the gutter. The foot is placed inside the gutter. The cotton tapes help in pulling the socks up the leg and subsequently the sock. In this manner, the sock is worn by a person who has problems wearing it by bending ones back and reaching the foot. There are openers that help the people who have problems with their hands or wrists to open bottles of ketchup, jam and other such bottles and jars that necessitates the use of hands and fingers. The third type of disability aids that comes to our minds are lifts. Now what are lifts? Lifts are certain machines that help in lifting people from specific areas, such as a bathtub or a set of stairs. These lifts are of varied types and come for numerous applications. It is for the individual to decide the type that he/she requires to use.For people, who have problems in balancing their upper bodies in a stable manner, there is something known as grab rails. These grab rails are installed for those who have mobility problems in their upper bodies. These rails come in varieties of shapes, sizes and angles. These grab rails are available to home users as well, in their different variations. One can purchase and fix one to their homes according to ones specificities. These grab rails require the act of screwing and drilling in order to fix them to their appropriate place. The prices of these rails also vary according to the variation of their shapes and sizes. A portable book holder is a much sought-after disability aid. It can be used by anybody for that matter, not just the disabled. These portable book holders are light-weight and can be easily moved about. These holders relieve the strains on ones hands, necks and shoulders that might occur due to the handling of a book. The holders are provided with extended legs that help in placing the reading material at suitable distance. Thus with the help of these disability aids, the old and disabled people can make their lives much more convenient and comfortable that would otherwise have been a cumbersome and complex one.Disability AidsThemeDisability aids are of great (71) to those who are disabled as a result of some major sickness or other problems.Different (72) of aidsStocking aidsHelp the individuals who have problems (73) down to reach their feet to put on socks by themselves. Over the years, through watching others and by trial and error, I have finally found ways to come up with plans, organize them and follow through with them.Make an outline of everything you need to have and do to make your plan happen. Make a list of all of the steps that need to be accomplished and think about what needs to be done.Detail everything thoroughly and read over it so you can start coming up with some mental solutions of how to carry out your plans. You should ensure that if for some reason way one doesnt work, you have way two and way three to lean back on. Therefore, different ways are needed at hand. Its just a matter of being organized. Chances are that there is always more than one way of doing things, and chances are that if one of those ways doesnt work, one of the other ones will.Committing yourself to finishing at least part if not all of your plan at once is also necessary. It will show that you not only have initiative to get things rolling, but that you are interested in the results obtained with making the move to get everything done.If you make a commitment to finish before a specific time, make sure that you carry that out, and be sure to do everything in the way you said you would, within the time-frame you set for yourself.Dont try to tackle more things all at a time. All that does is delay your progress, distract you and make you lose your interest, motivation and energy.Carrying out an effective plan requires being as organized as possible. You will only achieve this by sticking to the order of the plan and not deviating or trying to do more at a time.Last but not least, you should never abandon things mid-project. It will only annoy everyone around you including yourself. Unfinished plans are a waste of time, energy and, in some cases, even money. So, dont be afraid of organization. The older we get, the more necessary it becomes to have the skills to follow through with confidence and to be able to carry through plans in an organized and manageable way. It pays to be organized, after all.Title: Tips on how to be(71)_ in your lifeTipsDetails(72)_(73)_ down your plan.List everything you need.List the(74)_ you will follow. To make your plan happen. A 2008 Womens Sports Foundation Report concluded that childrens athletic participation has something to do with increased levels of family satisfaction, great achievement in study, and an overall better quality of life for children. And a study published in last months American Journal of Preventive Medicine showed that kids who are active at age 5 wind up with less body fat at ages 8 and 11.But one hotly debated discussion focuses on the kinds of sports kids should play, with parents incorrectly thinking, Lizzie is so quiet. We should enroll her in basketball and soccer to try to get her to open up.” But increasingly, experts are suggesting the healthier instinct might be, “Lizzie is so quiet. Maybe we should see if she likes playing with a big team like softball or if she likes ballet or swimming, where she can work more on her own terms.Participation in any sport is going to provide kids with life skills: the ability to focus and to concentrate, the ability to handle pressure in tough situations, and the ability to stay calm when things arent going just right, explains Orlando-based youth sports psychology expert Patrick Cohn. Those lessons will carry over into future, non-sports endeavors.Team sports certainly offer benefits not as easily obtained via individual activities, as players learn how to communicate and work with others, and theres the potential to develop leadership abilities. Team sports also help kids develop their social identity. Our sense of worth is developed through what we achieve and a sense of belonging.Individual sports offer distinct advantages, too, like developing a childs sense of independence. Here, you dont depend upon teammates, says Cohn. You are fully responsible, whether you do well or perform poorly.” Many of Cohns young clients complain about pressure from teammates or coaches to make zero mistakes or carry more of the team than they may want to; these kids may enjoy a solo sport like tennis or gymnastics.Individual activities keep kids from comparing themselves to the best players on the team, a habit that does little to help confidence levels. Instead, it encourages them to compare their skills to their own past performances. With individual sports like swimming or track, its easier for the child to participate on his own, at his leisure, without having to round up a bunch of like-minded peers.Above all, while some children thrive on the excitement of competition, others are more likely to benefit from the freedom of individual sports, and finding the right balance can be essential for childrens enjoyment. What parents think is encouragement, children often consider as pressure. So try to understand what they want from sports.TitleTeam sports or individual sportsHow sports benefitchildren Sports can greatly benefit a child physically, psychologically, and socially.
