Teaching important points: 1. to learn new words in the context.2. to improve their reading skills and lead them to get information from the passage by predicting, skimming, scanning and so on.VII. Teaching difficulties: to use target vocabulary to retell the story.VIII. Teaching stepsStep 1. Review (5 min)free talk. Talk about students different ways to school.T:How do you get to school every day?S:.T:How does he/she get to school every day?S:T:How do they get to school every day?S: Purpose: to review the target language in this unit and warm up.Step 2. Lead-in (2 min) Let students to watch a video and find out the transportation in it. Purpose: to attract students attention, stimulate students background and lead them to the topic.Step 3. Pre-reading (4 min)1. Presentation of new vocabulary Purpose: to help them get familiar with the new words.2. Prediction: Look at the picture and title below. Guess what the passage is about.Purpose: to practice them to predict the topic by observing the picture and the title.Step 4. While-reading: (18 min) 1. Fast-reading ( 4 min ): read the passage quickly and answer the questions (1). How do the students in the village go to school?(2). Is it easy or difficult? Purpose: to practice their skimming ability in order to get the key words quickly. 2. Careful-reading (10 min): read the text again and answer the questions (1). Why do they go to school like this? (2). How old is Liangliang? (3). Is he afraid of taking a ropeway? Why? (4). Whats the villagers dream? (5). Do you think their dream can come true? Purpose: to practice students to search for information by intensive reading to form the basic structure of the story. 3. Scan the passage again and fill in the blanks (3 min). For the students in the village, it is difficult to get to school. They have to cross a very big river between their school and the village. They cannot go by boat because the river runs too quickly. It is not easy to cross the river on a ropeway, but the boy is not afraid. The students and villagers want to have a bridge. Can their dream come true? Purpose: to develop their scanning ability so that they can find out the details.4. Summary (1 min)Step 5. Post-reading (12 min)1. Retell the story (4 min) Ask students to retell the story according to the text structures on the blackboard and then invite several students to have a try. Purpose: to help students form the whole understanding of the passage and practice their speaking.2. Write a letter (8 min) Suppose you are Liangliang. Try to write a letter to a newspaper to ask for help. Work in groups of 4 people and write down one letter by cooperation. You can write from these aspects:(1)Whats your name?(2)Where do you live?(3)How do you get to school?(4)Why do you go to school like this?(5)Whats your dream?
