Ask one student:What do you usually do on weekends?Do you do any housework at home?What housework do you usually do?Do you like doing housework? Why (or why not)?2. Look at the picture on P17 and ask the class:Who are the two people in the Picture?Where are they?What housework does Peters mother ask Peter to do?What does she say to peter?Will Peter do it ?How do you know ?3. Explain :“Could you please.?” is a polite way to ask other people to do something .“Could” means“can”here,but it is more polite than“Can”.Usually the answer to this question is“Sure.”4. Present the title by saying :In this class we will learn how to use “could” to make polite requests .Lets learn Unit 3 Could you please clean your room ?Section A1a1c.StepII. Presentation.1. Say to the class: Lets watch a diligent boy.What chores does he do every day ? (Explain:“chore”means housework)Ask some students to talk about the chores one by one .At the same time ,write the new words on the blackboard.2. Lead the students to read the phrases ,then the students read them together.3. la ,Do you do these chores ?Discuss them with your partner.4. Ask two students to report by asking:What do you and your partner do and not do?StepIII. Listening.1.Tell the class: Peter and his mother are talking about doing these chores .Listen to their conversation and check who will do them ,Peter mother or Peter.2. After listening once ,check the answers by asking six students to say complete sentences , not only“Peter mother”or “Peter.”3. The students turn to P98.Ask the students to listen again and underline the sentences that Peters mother uses to make requests. Then ask a student to read them out .StepIV. Summary and practice 1. Peters mother makes requests with:Could you please .?Peters answers may be different.Yes ,sure , /All right ./No problem ./Certainly.Sorry , I cant. I have to 2. Lead the students to read the question and answers.3. Practice with some individual students with the pictures.Say: Now Im Peters mother. You are Peter. I want to ask you to help me with some chores. 4. Play a game: Practice like this in a group of students using the chores the arrow points at .5. Ask the class:What would you like your partner to do?Let them write down the things they want their partners to do. 6. Ask: How should you ask your partner to do something ?Get them to read the conversation in 1c in pairs and underline the sentences to make requests: 7. Compare: “Could you please.?” and “Can you?”Which sounds more polite to you?Then tell the class: Both “could” and “can” are used to make requests, but “could” is more polite than “can”.8. pairwork:Make conversations about the things you want your partners to do in pairs. Then ask three pairs to show their conversations.9.
