Book 1Unit 7 How much are these pants Period 1 (Section A 1a-1c) Xu Ling Rongxian Laimu School May 16, 2010Good morning, my dear judges, Im Xu Ling from Rongxian Laimu School, thanks for sparing your time for my teaching planhow much are these pants, Section A, 1a-1c. There are four parts in my teaching plan, Teaching material, Teaching & learning methods, Teaching procedures and blackboard design.Part One: Teaching material At first, Id like to talk about Teaching material in six aspects.I. Analysis of the teaching materialThe topic of this unit is shopping, which is close to the daily life. Many students are interested in shopping. However, they dont have enough access to talking about shopping in English. So in this class, students will learn words of clothing and the way to ask about prices with great enthusiasm. All the activities of this class provide basic and main language points and develop their skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. So theyre very important in this unit. II. Analysis of the studentsThe second comes analysis of the studentsIn the last unit, students have learnt countable nouns, uncountable nouns and the plural forms of countable nouns. And the sentences with “be” are not difficult for them. So its very easy for them to understand “How much is ? Its; How much are ? They are ” Since this lesson is related to our daily life, its very helpful to arouse the students learning interests as well as improve their spoken English.III. Teaching aims and demandsThe third shows Teaching aims and demands of this class. The knowledge objectives of this class are To master words of clothing and master the way to ask about prices. Knowledge objectives:A. To master words: shirt/T-shirt/skirt/sweater/pants/shorts/socks/shoes/dollar/how muchB. To master the way to ask about prices: How much + be + sth.? Ability objectives:As for Ability objectives, there are two points, to name is:A. To develop the students abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.(at the same time)B. To train the students abilities of co-operation.l Moral objective: In this class, students will receive some moral education:To spend money reasonably no matter how rich you are. Emotional objective:As interest is the best teacher, so, the emotional objective isTo arouse their interests in learning English.IV. Important pointsNext comes important points.A. Key vocabularies:pants; sock; shirt; T-shirt; shorts; sweater; shoes; skirt; dollar; how muchB. Key structures:-How much is this T-shirt?-How much are these socks?-Its seven dollars.-Theyre two dollars. Difficult pointThe difficult point is how to use “how much” questions freely and fluently and how to communicate with others. Teaching aids: some pictures, a tape recorder, CAI In order to complete this class successfully, I will take advantages of following aids: some pictures, a tape recorder, CAIAbove shows all the information of Part One, now, lets come to Part Two.Part Two: Teaching & learning methods As we know, the main instructional aims of English learning in middle schools is to cultivate ss abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and good sense of English learning. So, I will apply following teaching methods.Teaching methods:A. Task-Based MethodB. Total Physical ResponseC. Communicative Approach. Learning methodsAt the same time, ss will use following learning methods:A. MemorizingB. RepeatingC. Cooperation Learning MethodThats all for Part Two. Lets come to Part Three.Part Three: Teaching proceduresStep1 Warming up & Revision (3mins)To warm up my lesson, Ill play an happy song Ten Little Indians, the reason why I choose this song is go over numbers form 1 to 10, which will be used in asking about prices.1. Sing the English song Ten Little Indians.Purpose:To go over numbers from 1 to 10 which will be used in asking about prices.As revision, I will ask my ss two questions, Whats this?& What are these? These two patterns are used to call back ss memories of asking about objects they want to know.2. Revise-Whats this? - Its a/an -What are these? - Theyre Purpose: To go over these two sentence patterns which will also be used in words-teachingStep2 Presentation (18 mins)With the help of Step1, both my ss and I are well prepared for this class, so, its time to move to Step2-presentation. At first, I will lead in the topic as following:T: I like beautiful clothes very much. Do you like them? Do you often go shopping with your friends?Today, well talk about clothes and their prices. 1. Present the new words Teach new words by showing the pictures one by one.-Whats this? Its a/an -Whatre these? Theyre Write the new words on the Bb. skirt /T-shirt/skirt/sweater/pants/ shorts/ socks/ shoesI will teach the new words step by step. First, I show them a picture and ask them“whats this?”, then I ask them to follow me to read. For the following words, I will also ask the ss to read after me.Next comes another group of pictures, I will do like this: “what are these?” “They are pants, pants, pants (repeat this words twice)” Then, I will make a list of all these words, and ask all of them to read these words together, at the same time, pay special attention to the highlighted part.2. Play the memory gamePresent these pictures once again and ask them to speak out loudly what these are.Purpose: To get the feedback of the words-learning.As soon as the ss have a first impression of these words, I will Present these pictures once again and ask them to speak out loudly what these are.At the same time, I will move around the classroom to see if any help is needed. 3. Present the sentence patterns. Since ss are supposed to be familiar with these words, Ill go on to present the sentence patterns.I will show a picture and ask:“whats this?”, ss may answer:“Its a T-shirt”,then I will ask“how much is this T-shirt?”, they may look at the price and then say:“Its dollars.”Here I will teach the word dollar, and explain that dollar is an countable noun, and we can say many dollars, we can also express price with its symbol.Second, I will apply another picture to practice the way to ask about price, at the same time, I will introduce yuan, of course, I will explain that yuan is a uncountable noun, so, we can not use yuans anytime. And we can also use its symbol to express price, for example, 20 yuan =¥20.To follow with, I will teach how to ask about plurals price. I will also ask two questions:“what are these?”“how much are these?”. I will explain that these words are in plural forms, so we should use “are”.Step3 Summarize (5mins)Words of clothing Sentence patterns-How much is + singular? -Its dollars. -How much are + plural? -Theyre dollars.Both the words and sentence patterns are the important points of this class, I will make a conclusion of them, and offer them several minutes to remember by heart.Purpose: To help the students have a clear outline of words and sentence patterns.Step4 Practice (14mins)To consolidate what we have learnt, I arrange following practice. First, ss are asked to come back to the textbook to do listening practice.Task1 Practice these words as 1a & 1b suggest1a. Match the words with the things in the pictures.1b. Listen and circle the things in the picture you hear.Purposes: 1. To train the students listening ability;2.To check if the students have really mastered these words and the sentence patterns learnt just now.Task2 Pairwork Second, I will present several pictures, and ask my ss to ask about the prices in pairs. The Purpose of this task is to train the studentscooperation ability. I will present these pictures one by one, and then invite several groups to act out their dialogues.Purpose: To train the studentscooperation ability. Task3 Play guessing games To make my class more active and interesting, I arrange following games.1. Show some pictures of clothing with prices. Let students have a quick look. Then cover the prices, and let them guess the prices by using “ How much is? Its ;How much are? They are ” 2. As English should be learnt in real situation, I will invite several students to the platform, while the rest guess the prices of their clothing. Purposes: 1. To learn to use. 2. To train the students cooperation ability as well as improve their spoken English.Step5 Do exercise (Fill in the blanks) (4mins)Step5 is to check the outcome of this class, including words and sentence patterns.1. How much is your _(衬衫)?2. How much are these _ (短裤)?3. Do you like that _(毛衣)? 4. _ _ (多少钱)are this hamburger and the French fries ?5. This watch is very nice. It is _ (15美元).6. How much _ (be) his shirt?7. How much _ (be) the red socks?Purpose: To check the outcome of this class, including words and sentences patterns.Step6 Homework (1min) Homework comes the last step. The first is to go over what have learnt in this class, and
