Unit4 At the farm : Part A (Lets talk; Lets play) Analysis of the textbook: The topic of this unit is mainly about some vegetables and animals at the farm, since the students are all from mountain villages, they are familiar with the new words they are going to learn in the given situation.To some extent, this may arouse students learning interest as well.Analysis of the students learning situation: Since most of the students in Grade 4 are weak in English and cant take an active part in class, I must try my best to create an active and relaxing class atmosphere to make more students be a part of my class and arouse their learning interest. Teaching aims:Knowledge aims:1. Enable Ss to grasp the following words and sentence structures:carrots; tomatoes; potatoesWhat are these?They are .Are they/these.?Yes, they are./ No, they arent.2. Enable Ss to use the sentence structures theyve learned to ask and answer questions. Ability aims: 1.Enable Ss to use the words and sentence structures freely in actual life. 2.To improve their speaking as well as cooperating ability. Emotional aims: Educate Ss to love nature and cherish the good life theyre living today. .Teaching important and difficult points: 1. To grasp the important sentence structures: What are these? They are . Are they/these.? Yes, they are./ No, they arent. 2. To improve their speaking ability. .Teaching methods: TBLT; Situational approach; Groupwork. Competition: Before class begins, Ill draw two trees on the tow sides of the blackboard, one tree is for boys, and the other is for girls. During the whole class ,whenever one student can answer a question, he/she can get an “apple” sticky note and stick it on their own tree. Finally, the group with more “apples” will be the winner. . Teaching aids: Some carrots, tomatoes, potatoes and apples; some pictures ; a tape recorder; some “apple” sticky notes”. . Teaching procedures: Step1. Warming up: T: What,s the weather like today? Ss: Its sunny/warm. T:Do you want to go to the farm with me? Ss: Yes. T: Ok, now lets go the farm and have a look. Step2. Presentation: 1. Teaching new words: First, show Ss a carrot and ask them: “ whats this?”. Ss may answer as : “ Its a“胡萝卜”. Then lead them to answer as “Its a carrot.”Write “carrot” on the blackboard and stick a picture with carrots on it beside the word. Teach Ss how to read this word, then show them several carrots and ask: “ what are these?”, lead Ss to answer as “They are carrots”. Then write down the sentence structure on the blackboard and draw Ss attention on the plural form of “carrot” and the pronunciation of “these”. Lead them to read this sentence structure. Second, show them carrots and ask: “ Are they carrots?” lead them to answer as: “Yes, they are.” show them several tomatoes and ask the same question, lead them to answer as “No, they arent.” Write this sentence structure on the blackboard and ask: “ what are these?” Lead them to answer as “They are tomatoes.”teach the new word “tomato” and draw Ss attention to the plural form of “tomato”. Then, teach “potato” in the same way. Finally, play a game called “touch and guess”. Invite a student to come to the front, close his or her eyes touch each kind of vegetables and practice like this: Are they.? Yes,they are./ No, they arent. What are these? They are. . Lets play. 1.Make the instructions and sample conversations clear. 2. Invite several Ss to come to the front and to be the little teacher, give the little teacher some pictures with vegetables and fruits on them, the teacher is supposed to point at the picture he/she is holding and ask questions by using the target language, the rest of the Ss are supposed to answer the questions. The little teacher can change the pictures. Lets talk. 1. Lead Ss to have a look at the pictures in “lets talk”, then play the tape for them, when they have finished listening, they are supposed tell the teacher what the conversation is mainly about and their difficulties. 2. Work on the difficulties together and ask Ss to follow the tape sentence by sentence. Step3. Practice Every four Ss form a group, practice the conversation, then they are supposed to role play the conversation. Step4. Consolidation Play a game called “ hide and find” Make the rules clear: the teacher hide any of the vegetables in any desk in the classroom, invite a student to come to the front with his/her eyes closed. The student is supposed to find the hidden vegetables:when this student get closer to the vegetables, the others are supposed to read this kind of vegetables louder; when he/she get farther away from the hidden vegetables, the others lower their voice; when the student find the vegetables, the others can ask like this: Are they.? Yes,they are./ No, they arent. What are these? They are. . The student is also supposed to answer the question. They can practice in three rounds. Step5. Summary. In this period, weve learned several kinds of vegetables at the farm as well as two important sentence structures, we know that all kinds of vegetables are planted by farmers with their hard work, so we should cherish the happy life we are living now and love nature! Step6. Homework 1. Role play “lets talk” with your classmates. 2. Make new conversations with your company by using your stationery.3.
