(15分)阅读表达。If you visit the animal shelter in Salinas, California, youll see huge wood cutouts(剪下的图形) of a dog and a cat. These signs were placed in front of the building to catch peoples attention. The supersized cut outs make people curious and encourage them to visit the shelter and maybe even adopt(收养) a pet. Each year, the Salinas shelter takes in around 2,000 dogs and 2,000 cats. The animals are either strays or are dropped off by people who couldnt take care of them. Of the 4,000 animals, some of them are finally adopted into new homes. Some animals are moved to other shelters. And, unluckily, some cannot be saved because they are too sick or are considered dangerous.Animal shelters provide food, medicine, and a safe place for animals to sleep. But they are not ideal homes. The shelters are loud, and the animals stay in small cages. The people who work at shelters do their best to care for the animals, but the animals do not always get the attention or exercise they need.To prevent so many animals from becoming homeless, pet owners should take care of their pets. One of the best ways to care for pets is to spray or neuter them. This surgery prevents cats and dogs from having more babies. And that reduces the number of homeless animals that end up in shelters.(1)How many dogs and cats does the Saunas shelter accept every year?(2)Why are the shelters not the best homes for the animals according to the passage?(3)If you find a homeless cat in the street, will you take it home? Why or Why not?14. (16分)Dear Boarding Students,At this time of school year, we can feel some students begin to experience excitement as the summer vacation comes. But some others still dont want to start packing. I once again ask for your attention as we will have summer camps for the new students. There is much work to be done in packing and cleaning-up,especially during exam week. Each student will get a task list and each task has a deadline(期限). The dorm(寝室)teachers will work with each student each night to make sure you are getting the tasks done on time. It would be helpful if your parents encourage you to do a little packing and cleaning from now on. It means you can take the posters off the wall, pack up winter clothes, return all borrowed books to the library, etc. Spending twenty minutes a day on your tasks will make the last week of the term very easy, and you can spend more time on the important preparation for exams. If you plan to travel home,Id like to remind you to take some of your belongings with you.The coming weekend is a closed weekend. During that time no one is allowed to leave school. After packing we need to prepare the dorms for moving out,and store(储藏)students large belongings. The last exam is on Thursday and all students leave after their exam. The dorm will remain open until 5 p. m. on Friday for those students that could not get a ride or flight. Please let us know if you need transportation to the airport.Thank you again for all your attention during the last, busy month of school.
