M1U3 Reading 单元:Unit 3 Looking good, feeling good内 容:ReadingPart 1 The analysis of the teaching material:The material of this class is a reading material, which consists of three emails. Two are written by one person and the third by another. It is of educational importance. What it is about is closely related to students life. By studying this text, students can have a better understanding of what health really means. Show the students some pictures and ask them to answer the following questions: Do they look good and feel good? Whom do you like better, the thin or the fat? Why?2. Then show them a picture about a fat man exercising to lose weight which may make the students laugh and ask them this question: Whats the man trying to do? Purpose: Stimulate their interest, and lead them to the topic “losing weight”Step 2 Pre-reading1. Do some pair work to discuss this question:If you are the person in the picture who is a little over-weight, how would you lose weight? Suggested answers: (write them on the blackboard)Going on a diet / Doing exercise / Receiving surgical treatment / Taking weight-loss pills2. Ask the students to look at the title and predict what will be talked about in the text. (Who, what, how, why, the results)Purpose: Arouse their interest and curiosityStep 3 Reading1. Fast reading Ask the students to read the text fast and answer the three questions on page 42 and try to guess the meaning of the title “Dying to be thin ”Purpose: Improve their scanning ability2.
