Over the years, we all learned to become more cobl other., Iee .When the children moved to a town five hours away, my husband was understandably destroyed. In order to keep in touch with the kids, we set up an e-mail and chat-line service.Ironically(具有讽刺意义的是), this technology can make us feel out of touch and more in need of real human contact. If a computer message came addressed to Dad, Id feel forgotten. If my name appeared along with his, it would brighten my day. Yet always there was some distance to be crossed, not just over the telephone wires.Late one evening, as my husband was snoozing(打盹), I was catching up on my e-mail, an instant message appeared on the screen. It was Margo, my oldest stepdaughter, also up late in front of her computer. We sent several messages back and forth, exchanging the latest news. When chatted like that, she wouldnt necessarily know if it was me or her dad unless she asked. That night she didnt ask and I didnt tell her it was me either. After hearing the latest volleyball scores and the details about a coming dance at her school, I said that it was late and I should go to sleep. Her return message read, Okay, talk to you later! Love you!At this, a wave of sadness ran through me and I realized that she must have thought she was writing to her father the whole time. She and I would never have openly exchanged such words of love. Feeling guilty(内疚的)for not telling her the truth, yet not wanting to embarrass(使人尴尬)her, I simply replied, Love you, too! Have a good sleep!I thought again of their family circle and I felt again the sharp ache of emptiness and otherness. Then, just as my fingers reached for the keys to return the screen to black, Margos final message appeared. It read, Tell Dad good night for me, too. With tear-filled eyes, I turned the machine off.66. By saying “Yet always there was some distance to be crossed”, the writer infers that _. A. their children lived in a town five hours away. The author thought that Margo must have mistaken her for her father because _. A. her father liked to chat about her activities. B. her father always stopped chatting like that. C. A. never know the special relationship between a parent and a child.B. exchange e-mails and messages with step-children. C. be part of the “inner circle” of the family. D. never be liked by his or her step-children.BBesides this question of the time given to pronunciation, there are two other requirements for the teacher: the first, knowledge; the second, technique. It is important that the teacher should be in possession of the necessary information. This can generally be got from books. It is possible to get from books some idea of the speech, and of what we call general phonetic rules. In this way it is also possible to get a clear mental picture of the relationship between the sounds of different languages, between the speech habits of English people and those, say, of your students. Unless the teacher has such a picture, any explanations he makes on his students pronunciation are unlikely to be of much use, and lesson time spent on pronunciation may well be wasted. But it does not follow that you can teach pronunciation successfully as soon as you have read the necessary books. It depends, after that, what use you make of your knowledge; and this is a matter of technique. Now the first and most important part of a language teachers technique is his own performance, his ability to show off the spoken language, in every detail of sound as well as in fluent speech, so that the students ability for imitation is given the fullest space and encouragement. The teacher, then, should be as perfect a model in this field as he can make himself. And to make his own performance better, however satisfactory this may be, the modern teacher has in his hand recordings and a radio, to supply the real voices of native speakers. If the teacher happens to be a native speaker himself, or speaks just like one, he needs to change the method of presenting the language material. However, the process of showing pronunciation, whether by personal example or with the help of machines, is only the beginning of teaching pronunciation. The technique of teaching each sound also needs to be considered.69. How might the teacher find himself wasting lesson time? _.A. By spending lesson time on pronunciation.B. By making illinformed explanations of pronunciation.C. By not using books on phonetics in the classroom.D. By not giving students a clear mental picture of the difference between sounds.70. Students have an ability for imitation which is _. A. plain and obvious B. well developed C. not yet developed D. too weak to be useful71. What is the main point the author makes about imitation of the teacher?A. It is a matter of secondary importance.B. Students should be given every chance for it.C. It depends on the students ability.D. Teachers are perfect models for students to imitate.72. To someone teaching his own language to foreigners, mechanical aids(技术手段) can _.A. improve his own performanceB. replace his own performance completelyC. provide examples of native speechD. make his voice louder73.Showing pronunciation is to be regarded as _.A. a part of teaching pronunciationB. an exercise of value in itselfC. an example of the use of mechanical aidsD. a technique for teaching separate soundsC Have you ever wondered why birds sing? Maybe you thought that they were just happy. After all, you probably sing or whistle when you are happy. Some scientists believe that birds do sing some of the time just because they are happy. However they sing most of the time for a very different reason. Their singing is actually a warning to other birds to stay out of their territory. Do you know what a territory is? A territory is an area that an a
