Unit 6I am watching TV(Section A 1a-1c)1 Analysis of the teaching materialThe unit is the Lesson Six in Book two (Go for it); its topic is mainly about everyday activities, such as watching TV, eating, cleaning and so on. Students talk about “what are you doing” to know what the Present Progressive is and the usage of it. Such a topic is related to their daily life, so it is easy to raise learning interests of students. Most of them have taken a great interest in English now, but there is still stability. They have a great curiosity and are eager to get knowledge. For English, they are surprised at it and be worried. They hope they can gain others affirm. Therefore, I try my best to make them take part in activities, which let them speak English as much as possible and reduce their anxiety.5 Teaching methods.As we all know, the main instructional aims of learning English in the middle school is to cultivate students abilities of listening、speaking、reading 、writing and their good sense of the English language. So I will mainly use “Communicative” and “Task-based” teaching method. Otherwise, I will use pair work, group work to let the students take an active part in all kinds of activities. That is “learning by doing, learning by using”, let the students be the masters of the class. Thus, students centered teaching method is well-shown.6 Teaching aidsPPT7 Teaching procedures Step 1Lead-inAt first, a photo of Jay Chou will be presented on the screen, and I will put forward some questions about him.Eg: who is he?What does he do?Is he a famous singer?Do you like him?What is he doing?he is singingThen, a song of“What are you doing” will be played.It is well-known that teenagers like famous singers, when they see the photo and listen to music, they will be very excited and interested in itReview Simple Present Tense through the photo and lead to Present Progressive.It aims to arouse students interest so that they can be concentrated on the class better.Moreover, it can also create a relaxed and delightful atmosphere for them Step 2PresentationI am talking, what are you doing? (Help students answer) we are having an English class now.Show some pictures which people do activities in daily. I will take one of them to demonstrate.Eg: T: whats he doing?He is swimming.Then lead students to answer my questions about other picture.Eg: T: what is she doing?S: she is doing homework.Show more pictures, let students observe the sentences and make a conclusion about what is Present Progressive by themselves.Write down the V-ing forms by another line of do, clean, sing and dance. Ask Ss to have a look and find the difference between. Eg: dodoing, dancedancing. Let them conclude the rules about how to add ing into verb forms.Students will be attracted by different kinds of pictures. And they have enough curiosity, they will think carefully and find the rules initiativelyWe all know that students attention usually is focused on the beginning, so I introduce the important here, which is the grammar“ Present Progressive”Show some pictures so that students can experience the structure and usage of Present Progressive in communicationMoreover, let themselves conclude the definition and rules so that they can have a deep impression on it Step 31a and 1cShow the picture in 1a to the students.T: This is a happy apartment. There are many rooms. They are doing different things. What are they doing? Please look carefully, match the words with the activities.Then ask Ss to work in pairs to check their answersEg: S1: what is he doing in picture 1a?S2: he is talking onthe phone.Finally, let students read the Ving words after me.Just now students have learned Present Progressive, the exercise is very easy for them, so they are more confident and can finish it very well.What is more, they can enjoy the pleasure of successDo the exercise after explaining, Ss can feel so easy that their interest can be increased greatlyBesides, by making a conversation, it can not only help them check answers, but also practice their oral English Step 4Listening 1bT: there are many people living in the apartment. Do you know“What they are doing”. Please listen to the tape and find out“Whats Jenny doing? What is John doing? What are Dave and Mary doing? The first time must finish it and check answers like this:T: what is Jenny doing?S: He is watching TVT: What is John doing?S: He is washing the dishesT: What are Dave and Mary doing?S: They are listening to a CDThe second time ask Ss to listen again and read it loudly after the tapeThere is not any difficult words or phrases in the listening material, so Ss will feel easy and complete it very quicklyThe purpose is to exercise students listening and improve their skills and abilities of listening. Besides, it develops a good listening habit for students. Step 5PracticeSeveral pictures will be showed on the screen, asking students to make a conversation in pairs.Eg: A: what is he doing?B: He is singing.Give them several minutes to practice, then ask them to act it out in class Students may encounter some difficulties, as they work, I will walk around the room for checking progress and offering any help they needIt is well-known that listening and speaking is inseparable, it can not only improve students ability of speaking, but also cultivates their spirit of cooperation Step 6Guess gameShow a picture that some parts are covered, we cant see what the people are doing, so let students see carefully and guessEg: T: What is he doing?S: Is he
