May we ask what you are doing in the country?Step 2 : Self-study and summary宾语从句就是在复合句中作宾语的名词性从句, 通常放在主句谓语动词 (及物动词) 或介词之后。(1) 由that 引导的宾语从句(that通常可以省略), 例如: I heard that he joined the army.(2) 由what, whether (if)引导的宾语从句, 例如: She did not know what had happened. I wonder whether you can change this note for me.(3)连接代词who, whom, whose, what, which, whoever, whatever, whichever 连接副词 where, when, how, why。如:I dont know when we set off for London. I will give him whatever he wants.(4)介词后宾语从句宾语从句也可用作介词的宾语。如:He was deeply displeased by what had occurred that day.I walked over to where she sat.Step 3:BrainstormFind all the examples where noun clauses are used as predictive(表语)Eg: Thats why weve given you the letter.Step 4: Summary表语从句是在复合句中作表语的名词性从句, 放在系动词之后, 一般结构是“主语+系动词+表语从句”。可以接表语从句的系动词有be, look, remain, seem等。(1) 从属连词that。如:The trouble is that I have lost his address. (2) 从属连词whether, as if。如:The question is whether we can make good preparation in such a short time.注:从属连词if不用来引导表语从句,但as if却可引导表语从句It looked as if it was going to rain. (3)连接代词who, whom, whose, what, which, whoever, whatever, whichever连接副词 where, when, how, why如:This is why we cant get the support of the people.Thats where we differ. 注意:1 连词because可引导表语从句。如:I think it is because you are doing too much. 2 在一些表示“建议、要求、命令”的名词后面的表语从句中,谓语动词用虚拟语气。should+动词原形表示,should可省略。如:My suggestion is that we (should) start early tomorrow.
