Besides his famous stories, he also wrote many influential articles about the living conditions of Chinese people.Born in 1881 to a wealthy family, Lu Xun had a happy childhood. In 1893, however, his grandfather, a senior government official, was put into prison for taking money. At the same time, his father became seriously ill. From that time on, his family were no longer accepted by their relatives and friends. These early experiencesgreatly influenced his writing.By the time Lu Xun arrived inNanjingto study at university in 1899, he already believed that Chinese society had to change and become modern. In 1902 he went to study inJapan. There, he began writing articles for several Chinese student magazines. He showed agiftfor writing and translating and he even wrote several books, although none was popular. He returned toChinain 1909 because he was in need of money. After working for several years as a teacher inBeijing, Lu Xun again returned to writing. In 1918, he wrote his famous short storyDiary of a Madman. It was the first Chinese novel published using the everyday language that people spoke, which helped make it a great success. This, together with his novelThe True Story of Ah Q(1921), made Lu Xun a leading Chinese writer.Although successful, Lu Xun still worriedgreatly aboutChinas future. In 1926, he moved to Shanghaiand gave up writing stories in order to devote himself to what he called “pen warfare”. He now only wrote articles which called on the people to fight against the government. For this, the government stopped himfrompublishing any more books. He was forced to write his articles using false names.Since his death in 1936, Lu Xuns importance and influence have grown. Today, many of his writings are included in school textbooks and his works are read by millions around the world.21. Which of the followinggreatly influenced Lu Xuns writing according to the passage?A. The people he met inJapan. B. The experiences in his early life.C. Working as a teacher inBeijing. D. After moving toShanghai, Lu Xun mainly wrote.A. funny stories B. articles about himselfC. articles against the government D. stories about government officials BWhen I was a kid, I used to spend hours listening to Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew Pinsky on their Sunday night radio show Loveline. I listened so often that I began to use one of their well-known phrases“good times”in my daily conversations. Scientists have a name for this phenomenon: behavioral mimicry. Youve probably experienced this before: after spending enough time with another person, you might start to pick up on his or her behavior or speech habits. You might even start to develop your friends habits without realizing it. There is a large body of literature concerning this sort of phenomenon, and it regularly happens for everything from body gesture to accents to drink patterns(模式). For example, one study found that young adults were more likely to drink their drink directly after their same-sex drinking partners, than for the two individuals to drink at their own paces. And the effect isnt limited to real-life face-to-face activities. Another study found that the same you-drink-then-I-drink pattern held even when watching a movie! In other words, people were more likely to take a drink of their drinks in a theater after watching the actors on the screen enjoy a drink. At least I dont feel so strange anymore, having picked up on Adam Carollas “good times”. New research published today in the journal PLOS ONE indicates that the same sort of behavioral mimicry is responsible for social eating, at least among university-age women of normal weight. Thats right: the young women were more likely to adjust their eating according to the eating pace of their same-sex dining companion. As with most experiments, these results raise a whole new set of questions. However, the finding that behavioral mimicry may at least partly explain eating behavior is important, and has real effects on health. The researchers note that “as long as people dont fully recognize such important influences on intake (eating), it will be difficult to make healthy food choices and keep a healthy diet, especially when people are exposed to the eating behavior of others”.25.The author takes his own example of using “good times” to_.Aexpress his love for radio shows Bprove the popularity of the showCshow the influence of the hosts words Dintroduce the topic of the passage26.Which of the following is NOT an example of behavioral mimicry?AA boy eats his popcorn after watching the actor eat.BA boy buys a Nike shirt when he finds his desk-mate has one.CA girl unconsciously sits straight just as others do.DA girl takes on the Yorkshire accent after a months stay.27.It can be inferred from the last paragraph that _.Abehavioral mimicry is beneficial to our healthBbehavioral mimicry decides our eating behaviorw w w .x k b 1.c o mCpeople have realized the effect of behavioral mimicry on our healthDIts impossible to keep a healthy diet without knowing behavioral mimicry28.What is probably the authors purpose of writing this passage?ATo draw readers attention to popular radio shows.BTo introduce behavioral mimicry and its influence.CTo appeal to readers not to fall into others habits.DTo advocate healthy food choices among readers. It always makes me feel lonely to see others laughing and talking. So, room service for several nights was a better choice for me. After having room service three nights at a hotel in Houston, however, I needed to get out of my room. Although the restaurant opened at 6:30, I arrived at 6:25. The waiter at the front desk made a comment(评论) about my “being there really early”. I explained my dislike of eating alone in restaurants. He then seated me at a lovely table and asked me whether I would mind if he sat down with me for a while. I was glad! He sat and talked with me about his career goals and the difficulty of being at work on nights, weekends and holidays. He said he hadnt enough time to be with his family. After 15 minutes, he saw some customers at the front desk and excused himself. I noticed that before he went to the front desk, he stopped in the kitchen for a moment. Then another waiter came out of the kitchen and had a wonderful chat with me. Before I left that night, some other waiters, even the cook, had come out of the kitchen and sat with me! When I asked for my bill about one hour later, all the people who had sat down with me came over in a big group to my table, and presented me with a red rose. And I cried! What had begun as a lonely night ended as a beautiful experience. w_w w. k#s5_u.c o*m33.
