I am Zhang Li from No.3 Middle school in Gaotai. Its my great honor to share my teaching ideas with you. Today Im going to talk about the first period in Section A of Unit 6 An old man tried to move the mountains ,which is taken from Go for it, Book 4 for Grade 8. I will divide this instruction into five parts. They are the analysis of teaching material, the analysis of students, teaching methods, teaching procedures, and teaching reflection.Part 1. Teaching material analysis .Status and functionsThe key topic of Unit 6 is telling stories. As the beginning of this unit, this period plays a very important part in the English teaching of this unit. Through setting various activities, it will arouse the students interests and let them get a general understanding of this unit, which will be good for the following studying.Such a topic is related to how to tell a story. It will arouse the students interests to talk about Chinese traditional stories.Teaching objectivesAccording to the Ss English level and new standard of English, the teaching objectives are as follows:1. Knowledge and skills objectives:(1)Encoursge Ss to practice their oral and listening comprehension.(2)Let them know how to tell a story.2. Proccess and method objectives:The approaches of discussion and so on will be adopted in the teaching process of this lesson. Ss are expected to be involved in the discussion, practice their oral English and share their stories with one another. Introduced a rich variety of activities and approaches to meet different need of students.3.Emotional and value objectives:“Interest is the best teacher”. This section will help the students to arouse their interests in learning and encourage students learn from Yu Gong that never give up.2It will also help them to build their confidence by retelling stories.III. Key points:Talk about well-known Chinese traditional story, Yu Gong Moves a Mountain. Help students to prepare for their discussions, make sure that they know what to do during the teaching process.IV. Difficult points:How to retell Yu Gong Moves a Mountain in their own words. Part 2. The analysis of the learnersSince the learners are students of Grade 8, it is very important to help them form a good habit of learning in class. The learners are sensitive to the new knowledge, eager to participate in activity and they rich in imagination.Part 3. Teaching MethodsDuring the teaching process , Ill use listening、speaking and practicing methods. At the same time , the task based teaching approach and cooperative investigation will also help the students to become the master of their learning acquire and listening. In this way students will experience the knowledge and eventurally acquire it.Part 4. Teaching ProceduresThere are six parts in my procedure.(1) Warming-up and lead-in(2) Presentation(3) Listening comprehension(4) Groupwork(5) Standard evaluation(6) HomeworkStep1.Warming-up and lead-inIn this section I will have a free talk with the students first, and then Enjoy a video to tell the Ss what we are going to talk about and write the title on the Bb. At last I will read the teaching aims for the students.Step2. PresentationThe teacher helps the Ss solve the difficulties of the words and phrases first. Then Play a guessing game to motivate the students interest and make the students learn more happily and actively. (This section will stimulate the students enthusiasm, further more it enables the students to know the Chinese traditional stories .)Step3. Listening comprehensionActivity1. First, ask students to read the sentences in 1b, so that they can finish the listening task better. Then let the students listen carefully and circle the facts they hear and check the answers. Second, ask Ss read the listening materials by themselves and discuss the questions of 1c in pairs ,then check the answers in class. Third, Ask the Ss to complete the Story Chain according to the pictures and information given on the screen.Activity2. First, ask Ss to Listen and number the pictures (1-4) in order to tell the story in 2a. Second, ask Ss to Listen again and circle the words you hear in 2b. Third, Listen to the materials and intimate (This section will arouse the students divergent thinking and also help them improve their listening ability.)Step4. GroupworkLet Ss retell the story in groups according to the key words. Encourage students Ss tell stories by using their own words:Once upon a time, there was (In this section the students are expected to be involved in the discussion, practice their spoken English, and develop their speaking skills and teamwork skills.)Step5. Standard evaluationLet Ss fill in the blanks about An old man tried to move the mountains(In this section, Through this class in learning in the detection of consolidation. )Step6.Homework First, according to the students study level ,give the different homework. For A level students: Write down the story “Yu Gong Moves a Mountain”; For B level students: Read it. Second, ask students search on the Internet to read more stories.Part 5. Teaching reflectionTeaching is a complicated process
