The WHO finds that poor cooking, heating and lighting technologies are killing millions of people each year. Indoor air pollution results from the use of dangerous fuels and cookstoves in the home. To help fight the problem, the WHO announces new guidelines aimed at reducing household pollutants.WHO officials say nearly three billion people are unable to use clean fuels and technologies for cooking, heating and lighting. And they say more than seven million people die from exposure(暴露)to indoor or outdoor air pollution each year. Of that number, the WHO says about 4.3 million people die from household air pollution given off by simple coal cookstoves. WHO officials say indoor pollution leads to early death from strokes, heart and lung disease. The main victims(受害者)are women and girls in developing countries, where they usually stay at home and do the household work.Carlos Dora, an official of the WHO, says people should not use unprocessed coal and kerosene indoors. He says opening a window or door to let out the harmful air will not improve the situation. It will only pollute the outdoors.Nigel Bruce is a professor of Public Health at the University of Liverpool. He says researchers are developing good cookstoves and other equipment to burn fuels in a more efficient way.WHO experts note some new, safe and low-cost technologies that could help are already available. In India, you can buy an induction cooker(电磁炉)for about $ 8.00. And in Africa you can buy a solar lamp for less than $ 1.00. But, this, the WHO says, is just a start. It is urging developing countries to use cleaner fuels and increase access to cleaner and more modern cooking and heating equipment.21What does the underlined phrase “the problem” in paragraph 1 refer to? AIndoor air pollution.BCooking habits.CPoor cookstoves.DUse of natural gas.22Why are women and girls in developing countries the main victims of the indoor pollution? AThey are very weak.BThey are more sensitive to the indoor pollution.CThey are exposed to the indoor pollution more.DThey seldom do exercise outdoors.23Which of the following is a good way to avoid indoor air pollution? ATo open a window while cooking.BTo use unprocessed coal indoors.CTo promote the cleaner and modern cooking equipment.DTo popularize the traditional cookstoves at home.24What is the best title of the text? AHow to prevent pollutionBHow to protect women and girlsCIndoor pollution kills millions each yearDThe importance of health in developing countriesBEvery pet owner loves his pet. There is no argument here. But when we asked our readers whether they would clone their beloved animals, the responses(反应)were split almost down the middle. Of the 228 readers who answered it, 108 would clone their beloved animals, 111 would not and nine weighed each side without offering an opinion.Clearly, from readersresponses, this is an issue that reaches deeply into both the joy and eventual sadness of owning a pet. It also shows peoples widely different expectations over the developing scientific procedure. Most of the respondents who favored the idea strongly believed it would produce at least a close copy of the original;many felt the process would actually return an exact copy. Those on the other side, however, held little hope that cloning could truly recreate a pet;many simply didnt wish to go against the natural law of life and death. Both sides expressed equal love for their animals. More than a few respondents owned“the dog/cat in the world”.They thought of their pets as their“best friend”,“a member of the family”,“the light of their life”.They told moving stories of pets heroism, intelligence and selfless devotion.Few wonder the loss is so disturbing(令人不安的)and the cloning so attractive.“People become very close to their animals, and the loss can be just as hard to bear as when a friend or family member dies,”says Gary AKowalski, author of Goodbye Friend:Healing Wisdom for Anyone Who Has Ever Lost a Pet. “For me, cloning feels like an attempt to turn death away. Its understandable. Death is always painful. Its difficult to deal with it. Its hard to accept.”But would cloning reduce the blow? This question seemed to be at the heart of this problem.25While talking about the readers responses, the expression“eventual sadness of owning a pet”refers to _.Athe troubles one has to deal with in keeping a petBthe high cost of owning a petCthe death of ones petDthe dangers involved in the cloning of a pet26What can we know from what Gary A Kowalski says?AHe has never thought about the problem of cloning.BHe is in favor of the idea of cloning pets.CHe has lost his beloved pets.DHe has doubts about the cloning of pets.27What is the key question at the heart of the problem of cloning pets?ACan cloning make the pain one suffers less when a pet dies?BCan pet owners afford the cost of cloning?CDoes cloning go against the law of nature?DHow reliably does cloning produce an exact copy of ones pet?COver the years, Ive received a lot of advice from friends and family, trained professionals and books on how to get along with others and build strong relationships. Most of it is insightful(有见地的) and effective but when Im caught up in the moment, I find it hard to apply what Ive learned. This is especially true when it involves a multi-step process. After analyzing many methods and experimenting in my own interactions(交流), Ive found one simple guideline that has helped me strengthen every one of my interpersonal relationships. This simple easy-to-remember tip is: Make the other person feel important. No one likes to feel small and most conflicts(冲突)occur when you make others feel unimportant whether you plan to or not. The key to getting along with almost anyone is to avoid actions that diminish others and replace them with actions that build up others. Actually, you can strengthen your relationships with many actions. When you interact with someone, give him your undivided attention. Dont look around to see what else is going on or check your phone or watch. Take time to listen and respond accordingly to show youre engaged. Make the other person feel like he is the most important person youre meeting with. Nothing will make someone light up more brightly than showing genuine interest in him. Be curious and ask specific questions based on what you hear. The more questions you ask, the better the interaction will go but keep in mind that you must be sincere. If you try to fake it, people can tell. When it is possible, show that you consider the other person remarkable. Find opportunities to speak highly of this person to others as often as you honestly can. One trap to avoid is making others feel more important by putting yourself down. This is never helpful so its important that you lift others up in a way that respects everyone including you.28What does the underlined word“diminish” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?ATake charge of.BSpeak highly of.CThink poorly of.DMake use of.29Which of the following should be avoided when you are listening to others?ABeing responsive.BPaying attention fully.CGetting genuinely curious.DPretending to be interested.30What does last paragraph warns against?ABeing too modest.BBeing sharply critical.CPlaying tricks on others.DLooking down upon others.第二节(共5个小题,每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项多余选项。 What is friendship? The answers may be different. 31 . We cannot live without friendship just as we cannot live without air or water. Friendship gives us a felling of safety and warmth, and friendship encourages us to go ahead all the time. 32 . When we feel happy, we can share our happiness with friends. When we feel down, friends will comfort us. If we are overconfident, our friends can persuade us, and they can make us confident and brave when we are discouraged. Friendship is valuable. It can touch your heart and give you hope. Many people are proud of having a good friend. 33 . If you help your friends for no reason but simply because they are your friends, this means that you regard(认为) your friends as yourself. This is true friendship. In fact, friendship isnt always easily kept. 34 , you should treat him or her in the way you want to be treated. Keep the secrets that your friend tells you. Keep your promise with your friend. Share things withyour friend. We should try our best to protect the friendship from being hurt. Because of friendship, our lives are full of happiness. Therefore, the more friends we have, the more pleasures(乐事) we can share with them. Lets say “Thank you” to our friends for their love and care. 35 , never forget to keep the beautiful friendship!AWhen you want to keep a friendBIf your friendship still cannot last longCNo matter where we go or who we becomeDEveryone needs friends and is eager to get friendshipE. True friendship must be sincere and must not have conditionsF. But one thing is clear that friendship is one of the most important things in our lifeG. Sometimes people have good friends when they are young and studying in school第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分45分)第一节 完形填空(共20个小题,每小题1.5分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。Nowadays,an increasing number of people are indifferent to others and unwilling to help others who are in trouble. In their opinion, what 36 is their own interests, and they are simply not 37 about whether those people live or die. How terrible the phenomenon(现象)is!However, I 38 believe that helping others is helping yourself in one way or another. Then I will explain why helping others can 39 ourselves in more detail. When you help others, you will find yourself becoming confident. Take myself as a(n) 40 . When I was a little girl, I dared not talk with others and I preferred staying 41 . One day in an art class, my deskmate 42 to bring color pens, then I 43 lent her mine. She appreciated my help but was 44 because I rarely talked. After that, she often chatted with me and helped me become a(n) 45 girl, and she also helped me when I was in trouble. There is no 46 that we became best friends. What benefited me most was that I gained confidence and was willing to 47 others. If I hadnt lent my color pens to her, she might have been punished by the teacher, and I wouldnt have been confident so soon. Through this thing, I have come to 48 helping others is helping yourself in one way. 49 , when you help others, you will feel very pleased. As the Chinese old saying 50 , “Fragrance(香味)will be reserved in your hand when you present others with roses. ” 51 someone meets with some difficulties, then you come to help him. “Thank you”will make you feel that you have done a rewarding thing and your 52 is much more than the person who gets your help. What a wonderful thing it is!From what have been discussed above, we can safely arrive at the 53 that helping others is helping yourself. Helping others can1 not only bring others pleasure, but also bring ourselves pleasure and confidence. This time we helped others, maybe 54 when we are in trouble, others will help us. So we should try our best to form the habit of helping others. Only in this way can the world become warmer and more 55 .36AcaresBweighsCmattersDmeasures37AcautiousBconcernedCanxiousDcurious38AfrequentlyBrarelyCdirectlyDfirmly39AbenefitBserveCsupportDaffect40AcaseBmodelCexplanationDexample41AaloneBindoorsCoutdoorsDclosely42AregrettedBfailedCmissedDintended43AhurriedlyBhesitantlyCimmediatelyDsecretly44Adisappointed BexcitedCupsetDamazed45AoutgoingBwarm-heartedCquick-mindedDstrong-willed46AneedBwonderCpointDdoubt47Adeal withBcommunicate with Cargue withDagree with48ArealizeBadvocateCguaranteeDaccept49AIn briefBIn generalCIn additionDIn summary50AreadsBwritesCspeaksDgoes51ASinceBIfCUnlessDUntil52AdifficultyBappreciationChappinessDinfluence53AconclusionBcommitmentCdecisionDdescription54Ain the endBday by dayCin the futureDnow and then55Aworthwhile BharmoniousCsuitableDadmirable第II卷(非选择题)注意:将答案写在答题卡上,写在本卷上无效。第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分45分)第二节 语法填空(共10个小题,每小题1.5分,满分15分)Many teens in high school want to try out for sports because they think playing sports will make them more popular.
