It has 5 parts. Analysis of the teaching material, the students, teaching methods and learning methods, teaching procedures, and teaching reflection. Now, Ill go into details. I. Analysis of the Teaching Material1. OverviewThe main topic of Unit 5 is about animals, along with Why? Because What? sentence structures. And the content of this period is a reading passage about Thailands elephants. The topic column in the English Curriculum Standard has an item about animals. Students have learned something about animals in English before. And the content has a close connection with the next period as well. Also, they can learn something about the culture background of Thailands-the elephant is one of Thailands symbols.2. Teaching Aims and DemandsAfter this period, students may be able to (1) Master the key words and phrases. There 17 new words and phrases, among them, ten words are in the vocabulary list of the English Curriculum Standard, consolidate the key Why? Because What? sentence structures through this period.(2) Learn something about Thailands elephants.(3) Develop their reading skills by scanning the passage for some specific information and skimming for the main idea and the topic sentences about Thailands elephants.(4) Know that animals are our friends, we should help them.3. Teaching Key Points(1) Help students to master the key words, phrases and sentence structures.(2) Help students to know about Thailands elephants.(3) Develop students reading skills.4. Teaching Difficult PointsHow to develop students reading skills.II. Analysis of the StudentsStudents in Grade 7 are full of energy. They are active and have great interest in new things. They may have some learning skills and language background. However, some of them cant concentrate all their minds on learning. In their view, English is a little difficult, and they are afraid of making mistakes, so they dont often open their mouths.III. Teaching MethodsAccording to the English Curriculum Standard, the students learning situation and the teaching aims of this period, Ill use the multi-media to set a scene for students to understand better, asking and answering may help students to master the key sentence structures of Unit 5. And task based method may help them to understand the passage and get information about Thailands elephants. Students may also gain the sense of success through doing these tasks.Ill help students to use scanning, skimming and a mind map to understand the reading passage better.IV. Teaching ProceduresIve designed five steps 5 steps of this period, Warming-up, Pre-reading, While-reading, After-reading, and Consolidation.Step 1 Warming-upAsk students: “Do you keep a pet at home? What animals do you like? Why?” Help students to answer using “Because” Students then can have a free talk about their favorite animals with each other. (To review the language points learned before.)Step 2 Pre-reading1. Ill show these pictures on the screen, and ask: “What do you think when you see these pictures?” Students may answer, “I feel terrible.” And Ill say, “Yes, some people are killing the elephants for their ivory. And elephants are in great danger. What other animals do you think are in great danger? ” Students then can talk about the animals that are in great danger and finish 2a. (This is a pre-reading task. Students then can know that we should help animals and get ready for activity 2b. )2. Say, “Now lets learn about elephants further.” Ill show some pictures and help students to learn the new words and get some information about elephants. (Pre-reading tasks. Using pictures and sentences may help students to understand and master the new words. Prepare for the reading passage. )Step 3 While-reading1. Find the title. Show the question: Can you find the title for the passage? And play the recording. Students listen and check the best title for the passage. (To get the main idea.)2. Fast reading. Ask students to read each paragraph quickly and find out the topic sentences. Ill give some instructions to guide the students. Check the answers and students read the topic sentences together. (To get the main idea of each paragraph.) 3. Careful reading. Show some exercises and ask students to read each paragraph very carefully to find out the answers. The questions are, “Why are elephants important in Thailand? (About Para.1) What can elephants do? (About Para.2) Why are elephants in great danger? (About Para.3) How can they save elephants? (About Para.3) ” (These tasks may help students to understand the passage better and develop their reading kills.)4. A mind map. Students read the passage again and get information about elephants to complete the mind map in activity 2c. Check the answers by inviting 4 students to share their answers with the whole class. (To get information from the reading passage and understand it better by using the mind map.)Step 4 After-readingInvite 2 students to retell the passage according to the mind map. (To help students understand the passage further.)Step 5 Consolidation1. Sum up the main points of this period with the whole class.2. Homework(1) Read the passage in 2c. (Must be done.)(2) Copy the new words and phrases. (Must be done.) (3) Re-write the passage or copy the passage. (Alternative .Choose either)V.
